Hi,
ive got a 86 16v without cat so no o2 sensor so no pin3 to measure :( boo!
i know the car is running rich as the EHA is tweaked a little bit, plugs are dark but it runs great, i really wanted to set the mixture right so i was going to buy this on ebay

Mixture tester

is this the best way for me to measure the co2 and set it via the allen key, at least get it close enough to the proper levels as close to 14.7:1

cheers

Yes i have an old thing i bought from ebay secondhand a few years ago. Its been playing up recently but a new filter has sorted it out.

The only problem with mine, is that the air line attached to the pipe you stuff up the exhaust tends to get clogged up with condensation after a while. The instructions tell me to blow it out with an air line to clear it. Only i don't have a compressor or air line :-/ I used to connect it to a foot pump but that has now broken

Mine was running way to lean, 0.2!!!! So i richened it up to around 1.6 before the pipe got blocked!!

Then it was a case of setting the air idle screw and mixture a tiny bit by bit until i got a steady tick over and no flat spots or off revs hunting/stalling. It took me a good hour of messing about, taking the car out then bringing it back to make more adjustments etc but i seem to have got it pretty much spot on and the car now goes a lot better too B)

Dont you just love it when a plan comes together :D

sounds good! :) nice one mate!
where do you live? hehe, i took mine out earlier just a quick run down the road + back. was ok... tickover got lumpy and seemed to be a bit erratic on idle, so i think new plugs (good gap size for them?), oil change, oil filter, then mixture! :)

I set my plugs at 0.8mm(sorry, i missed that part of your post. They should come pre set at that anyway. Mine had closed up a bit when i checked them. That must be because it was running so lean, causing the plugs to overheat.

ok :) thanks! haha bit far for me to come in a non mot'd car shame tho! once its on the road tho we'l; have to have a northern meet.
ill go check the car tommorow when i get a chance to run it till its hot, goin change plugs first gap em and see what co2 im at..
im aimin for a bout 2% on the tester then? looks like optimum 14.1:1 range on the manual
interested to see what its running!
