Hi, I have a 190E 2.0 auto with a/c. I have found some very useful information in the threads with regards to coolant loss but will most grateful if anyone can shed any light on my problem. 1. Loosing about 250 ml every week 2. Head gasket has been replaced recently 3. Water pump looks new but there is an orange puddle on the engine tray from where the water pump hose exits, however the hose feels dry 4. Inside carpets are dry Thanks. |

Hi, You say the water pump hose feels dry, is that when the motor cold is or hot, and also are you sure it is not coming out of the pump itself, that is out of the little spout or thin hose underneath the pump, if so it will be the pump inner seal that is gone,= new pump. But my guess it will be a result of not tightening the hose properly when you did the head gasket and it is seeping under pressure when running. Hope that helps but maybe someone else will come with suggestions. Cheers, Barrie. |

Hi Barrie, On your advice, I had a look/feel underneath the pump. It is very wet and a few drops of clear red coolant dripped onto my hand. I need to have a poke around to find out the source of the leak. Looks like the pump is gone. Cheers, Jason |

Jason, I had the same problem with mine and after changing the pump was still loosing coolant it later turned out to be the thermostat housing as the seal in this wears away and people dont check these..... worth checking as it can be a cheap fix rather than an exspensive water pump..... Philip |

Not very likely, normally it will be coming from the drain pipe at the bottom of the 'WaPu' sometimes there is just a hole there other pumps have a short piece of hose on to direct the coolant away from the car under the engine, Mine went about five years ago and it just had the hole, naturally it covered everything under the bonnet, but the newer ones have a little pipe which you should put a bit of hose on to direct any leakage under the engine protection panel. I didn't think it was a good idea as you don't get much warning when the 'WaPu' seal is on its way out, and by what I have been informed the seal is the Laborinth type that is not repairable, that is even if you manage to get the WaPu apart. |
