I've had my 2.0E now for a couple of months and it's been a lazy starter from cold since then. Churns 5 to 10 times before firing and then is no problem. Also fires from warm or hot instantly. I replaced the plugs with Bosch and put on a new Distributor cap/rotor (leads were nearly new already) but no improvement. Put some Redex in to clean the injectors but didn't notice any change either. A couple of weeks back I popped out the OVP relay and took the can off to inspect the contacts. Looked fine and made good contact with a 12V supply on the coil (made sure the switch was making with continuity too). Next up was an oil change 10w40 semi-synth and filter, preceded by an oil flush and overnight drain. (p.s noticed 5l of 10w40 Total semi for £13.80 in local SCATS farmstores today, which seemed reasonable). Last week I picked up a couple of cans of Wurth Injector cleaner at the local car-boot and put one into a full tank. A few days later the car fired up instantly from cold and has been like it since (even this morning after a wet night). So I'm putting the sluggish starting down to a mucky cold-start injector. Also had to replace the fan switch on the top of the engine block recently after it finally gave up the ghost. The replacement from GSF was £20 and unfortuneatly duff. Got one from the Merc dealer for the same price and works great. I know it's been said before but worth checking the dealership first for consumeable parts. The parts guy at the Merc counter will probably be a lot more knowledgable about stock faults too. |
