| Which sensor controls the cold start valve/injector? | |

My 16v has been massively over fueling on cold start up. I unplugged the connector to the cold start valve the other day which instantly seemed to cure the problem. As well as the over fueling issue, the car is becoming more and more lumpy and jerky on acceleration and is generally running like a pile o shite. Im thinking that the problems are more than likely connected. Probably a temp sensor? But which temp sensor is it? cheers, Stu |

Hi Stu The engine temperature (hot/cold start) is taken by the coolant temperature sensor. The thermo time switch (the bit that you removed from the cold start injector) is powered by 12v from the ignition. If the engine temp is less than 95deg F, the thermo time switch grounds the cold start injector and powers the injector to spray fuel for a maximum of 5 to 12seconds. its possible that the thermo switch is faulty and its not switching off the cold start injector, making the mixture very rich. check if the cold start injector is leaking! any black smoke when you put your foot down? mazza |

Hi Mazza It was the blue conector i removed from the cold start injector. Is that linked to the thermo switch?? It doesnt kick out any black smoke when booted no. It just seems very rich from cold start and takes a while and a few attemps to get it running. Then its very lumpy until the excess fuel clears. It seems to be much better now i have disconnected the cold start injector, like i said. It fired up ok this morning but still smeled quitr rich!!?? I think you may well be correct about the cold start injector leaking over night. I'm going to un bolt it and leave it hanging in a jar over night. Thats if its possible to do that leaving it still piped up to the fuel system. |

Stu 2 five mil allen bolts to remove but, you will have to remove the fuel line first to withdraw it from the unit then maybe re pressurise the system once back on the fuel line you will be able to test the time it s open then once running

hi yep!! spot on! I wonder if the flexi fuel lines used on Audi's and VW's would fit our distributor and cold start injector flanges, that would really make these little jobs a lot easier.. mazza |

Hi yes mate, the blue connector is the thermo switch, it activates the cold start injector when engine is cold. have a look and a sniff at the spark plugs. energise the pump and check if cold start injector leaks hope you get it sorted mate mazza |
