I thought I had my cooling fan switch sorted, but it failed again. I am not sure which one it is I need to order for the car, and it seems Mercedes aren't too sure either. So is it possible someone could post a picture of the exact switch or a diagram? If we can get a diagram or image then I am sure Google Indexer will eventually find the page and direct other people with the same problem to here. Many thanks. Matt. |

Are there no pictures on the Russian parts site of the part you require? You should be able to get the part number at least from there. |

006 545 91 24 Fan switch and temp guage. £20.93 Just check front right on top of block. Make sure you have two pin and not 1 pin. Edited by aemt, Tue Aug 4, 2009 6:50 pm.

Yes it is a 2.0 auto (1989, originally an F plate) Is it the one with the red bit on it? I will get an image uploaded in the minute I think. |

Do you have Air con? Here is the link to the russian site http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.partscatalog.ru%2Fmercedes%2FF%2F%231%2F&sl=ru&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 Edited by aemt, Wed Aug 5, 2009 2:07 pm.

yep it is 98 but you will find that there are i think 4 part numbers. 006 545 91 24 Fan switch and temp guage. £20.93 This was the switch I put in my '92 2 litre. Non aircon. It is the temp guage sender and fan switch and as such has two electrical connectors. Do not use this if you have aircon. To be honest I cannot understand why you cannot get the part number from MB parts from your car reg. Hope you get it sorted. Did you sort your wheel out with Crysack? Ordered. The rather lovely lady at Mercedes Benz was almost certain that it was part number 98. More to follow. Stay tuned... Matt. |

Changed the switch, problem still remains. Is there any chance it could be the coolant mixture? or is it just something to do with the wire? It doesn't matter which way the plug goes onto the switch? |

Sounds like you have an 'intermitant' contact problem with the fuse, try taking it out and cleaning the 'Patina' build up off the contacts. |

I don't think it is the fuse/contacts. If It turns out to be the wire or electrical plug, how hard is it to put a manual switch into the interior with a heavy duty wire going to the fan? |

Disconnect the plug, put a wire/paperclip/splitpin across terminals, if you hear a clonk then all is ok with the wiring. If not then i'd go for fuse, then wiring, then possibly the magnetic clutch. |

I did much the same with mine about three years ago, after several checks came to the conclusion that I had a break in my 'loom' so fitted a' heavy' wire directly from the battery with an inline fuse to the sensor (switch), so one wire goes to the battery and the other goes to the Magnetic clutch, the cut wire that goes into the loom just insulated and it's worked ever since, I even at the time bought a new 'magnetic clutch' but there is nothing to go wrong with that as it is just an 'Electro-magnet' with no working parts in it . |

balamb37, the electromagnetic fan clutches do go I don't think it is a very common problem but it happened to me on my 2.0 where the magnet had cracked and only very intermittently was the switch able to trigger it on. After replacing it all was fine. |

Point taken, "there is allways exception to the rule", but 99% of the time it is the electric supply at fault.
