developed a problem with my 2.5-16v where if it stalls (trying to get through that problem where it stalls if clutch suddenly down like when coming to an emergency stop) or if i turn off and try and restart it just wont fire. It needs to be turned over a few times and then suddenly comes back to life and is fine. it is really wierd. is this a common problem with these cars? |

A quick look around the tech posts will find many with the same or similar problems. The first thing i'd check would be the idle control valve. |

had a look about and one of the things i saw was fuel accumulator not holding pressure. I changed the fuel filter at the weekend and had trouble sealing the banjo back up with the 2 copper washes. the ones that came with the filter (Hengst? - from ECP) were too big so reused the old ones which seemed good nick and really had to tighen to stop fuel leaking. it doesnt leak now but was wondering if it is drawing in air bubbles when hot and stalled or something?? sound like the problem? stupid copper washers! it seems like they should be crush washers to seal properly as the system must hold high pressure. |

ok i have checked the fuel filter is sealed ok and i am confident it cant be pulling in air. checked ICV and CSV and cleaned them with carb cleaner and checked the connectors. seen somewhere it could be a coil problem (if feels hot when driving could be a problem). this could be a possibility as i have changed lots in the ignition system (plugs and leads) but not the coil although i have fiddled with it. any help as it is dangerous and embarassing not being able to start again when stalled or having quickly stopped for petrol etc!!! |

The next time the problem occurs, unplug the coil lead from the dissy cap and test if if its giving a spark by pushing a spark plug into the end, earthing the plug on the block and cranking the engine over to see if you have a spark. That should tell you if the coils is working or not. |
