Ive been colour coding the cladding on my W126, did a couple of layers of basecoat followed the next day by 2 coats of 2k laquer. I was putting the chrome strip back onto the door cladding and it seems to have shrunk by nearly 10mm. Ive left it out in the sun and it expanded a little so the chrome now only overlaps by about 7mm. Ive checked the other bits of cladding, which have been painted but not laquered, they are the right size for their chrome trims, so ive deduced that it may be the laquer contracting. Is this a known phenomenon is the painting world? Other than using a 1k laquer what can i do to avoid this? Thanks |
