Right the last week or so mines been 98% so i changed the idle control valve (icv as sometimes listed on here) thought it responded a lot better but now it doesnt start off the key ? 6-8 revolutions before it does then runs crap and tries to stall untill warm, then fine so i changed the cold start valve (would make sense i thought) in my head i some how thought that my (maybe) nackered icv was masking my (maybe) nackered csv ? so new(ish) icv and csv but still crap to start when cold ? i messed around with the settings tonight and wont know till the morning if i have sorted it but any one know why this would happen like this ? is the icv linked to starting in cold somehow ? |

Sounds exactly like mine Steve!! I have now unplugged the connector to the cold start valve and it starts up from the first turn of the key 99% of the time now! |

I don't know the answer to that problem, but if you know who set up Wills car, he's the man. I've had a few, but none have ever been set up so well .

Boys, just a thought.... What relays are connected/linked to both valves? It is worth checking as I have seen a similar starting problem to other cars and it was due to bad relays. My engine needs a generous cranking to start too, and it does that during the last month. It's an 8-valve though. But I cannot see any mechanical problem related to that. update still crap this morning and leaving work so this evening a put the old icv back on and presto fired straight up !!! si it would seem my spare idel controll valve was shagged so is yours maybe one thing worth pointing out on comparing the two looking in side at the slider one was completely closed the other had a gap of around 2mm when powered up they both twithced ? and run the few second cycle but the closed one never noticable opened or the other closed so not sure really what i should be seeing Anyone put any light on what a good icv should look like will see how mine starts again in the morning but it may apear that the icv aso helps with starting ! |
