My head gasket recently went on my baby 1.8, so i thought ok not to much of a problem, went to get it fixed and turns out the head was very `pitted` so off i went to get it welded tested new guides valves, got it back and it looked like new....Lovely. After putting the head and the rest of the bits back together and starting for the first time its developed a new noise, it sounds like its supercharged!! when i rev the engine it has that wine remonesent of a charger, thought it might be power steering pump, checked it, topped it up, still wines, does any one have any ideas or had this problem befor? Second thing thats happened is the throttlel cable, it went ping whilst driving, thought i snapped it but it is fine all together and tight, but feels realy lose, Has any one with a 1.8 had simalar thing happen, or h0w does there cable feel under foot? Regards Gary |

it sounds like the timing chain tensioner is too tight. my throttle cable has a good weight to it. check that it is attatched and in all its guides and clips securely. hope that makes sense. R. |

Sounds like your throttle return spring has done a 'runner'. |

Ahh Richy190E i think you have just hit it right on the button, how do i change the tention on it? will it caus a problem it not checked out? Balamb37, is there just 1 main spring on the throttle lincage? because i can only see one, and it all seams to return well but it just goes down a lot easier then befer. |

Mine sounded a wee bit 'supercharged' after the Timing Chain was done, it just sounded really zippy and new. I recall the day I drove it back from the garage, I just had the windows down and listened. Lovely. Settled down after a few thousand miles and has not needed adjustment. |

Its a one way tensioner, when you remove the sprocket/chain it moves to full extension. What you have to do it remove the tensioner assembly and strip it down. Fit the innermost part into the engine then fit the core piece and tighten the outer nut to spec. Jobe done. If left tight it can wear the sprockets and risk stretching the chain to breaking point. Best get it sorted. |
