Just put a kinda home made induction kit on the 1.8, mix of golf K&N and audi parts, looks the part, and sounds beefy too, pulls good but has developed a slight flat spot from 3-4 k on the rev range, any ideas fellas/lasses? |

ummm, seems like youd be squishing it all in to make it fit, any big kinks in the piping? cos 3-4k would be about where the intake really begins to "suck" right? so blocked airflow = flat patch. also, my familys old 1.8 runaround developed a flat spot at 3-4k when it was running hot (ie: typical aussie summers day, 40 degrees with bumper to bumper traffic all the way home- 30 miles)...so are oyu sure its not running hotter than it used to be??

I was running my car without air filter (stock airbox and steel mesh)last summer, and the flat spot was bellow 2000 RPM due to excessive air. 3 - 4K RPM the engine was singing and pulling hard. Just put the airbox on with a K&N filter and you will be fine. |

Yeah i think i will put the original one backon, but the pipeing is very un restirctive basacally its a golf carb elbo moulding thing over the carb with a straight K&N ally tube about 4" in diamater and about 9"long or so with a HKS filter on the filter is down near where the original intake starts near the raidatir, so lots of cold ari, but its very close to the hot pipe from the rad, on paper it sounds great and it sounds lovely, but if its not doing anything for power its cumin off, DOH |

Can you get a picture? The fuel metering head has an external diameter of 102mm or 4". What is the diameter of the ally tube? I suspect that it should be around 50 to 60 mm. |
