Hi all,

I have a 1986 Mercedes 190E. The car was running fine but recently it started an issue with transmission i guess....im not sure about it. Its an automatic car.
The problem is when I try to change the gear to either D or R position..it should start moving little bit automatically but I have to push the accelerator to move the car very hard. It makes big sound like......VVVrrrooooommmm....lols and then it moves little bit and suddenly it gets the hold of gears somehow and drives ok ....but also soemtimes while driving I have to hit the accelerator hard.

What can be the issue, is there something which i can fix myself.

Thanks.....

If you have no record of the Automatic Transmission Fluid and Gearbox Filter being changed on the car, then I would start with that.
Will do no harm, and possibly a lot of good.
Check your owner's manual for the exact type of ATF required :)

Yeah there is no such history associated with my car but I want to know where I should fill the ATF fluid and what is the procedure. If you can give me some link or write down the steps, I will appreciate that mate.

Thanks again.

You fill via the dipstick hole, start with 4 litres (if empty of course) then fire it up and cycle it through the gears before adding more fluid. You may need a small funnel. (tesco do a perfect one as a 3 pack for 99p, you may have to hold the funnel off the neck slightly to prevent an airlock.

The Gearbox Dipstick Hole is at the back of the engine, on the exhaust side. It has a Red flip-top on it, on the left in this picture.

Golden Rule : DO NOT OVERFILL
