The rear springs on my 1.8 aren't great and I'd like to change them. I have a set of nearly new ones which I've had for ages and I can't be certain which model they were from. Before I have them fitted, I just need to check they are the correct ones. The part # stamped on them is 201 324 2504. Would someone please be kind enough to check they are the correct ones and let me know? Many thanks Steve |

Thanks very much for the tip. Found the exploded diagram and the relevant part #. My Russian isn't that great, but I managed to work out what's what. Very handy. |

Hopefully someone will have the answer to this. Using the Russian site, the spare set of rear springs I have would appear to be from a 2.0 car fitted with more options than mine i.e. towbar, LSD - thus making the rear of the car heavier. I checked the part number with the parts manager at my local Mercedes dealership and he confirmed this. Unfortunately, he didn't have the correct springs in stock. He kindly did a quick search around other dealers to see if they might have any, but no dice. He seemed to think the (nearly new) spare springs I have would be thicker and would make the car sit higher than if I sourced the correct M-B springs for the actual spec of the car. He suggested trying ECP or GSF, but unlike M-B, I can't see them offering a wide choice of stock springs for every model of 190, dependent upon the factory options fitted. I suspect they will offer one generic set for a 1.8/2.0, one set for a 2.6, one for a 16 valve and so on. Can anyone shed any light on this, please, and more to the point, if I do fit the more heavy duty springs, (the spare ones I already have) will they greatly affect the ride height/ride quality? Appreciate any help you can give. Thanks |

A big thank you to Andy (UKMerctechie) who despite being off work with a dodgy stomach, took the time and trouble to PM me with some expert advice, then answered my phone call with even more useful and common sense advice. He confirmed what I suspected, that non-M-B springs are generic to each model and advised me not to fit GSF/ECP replacements. Given good knowledgeable advice, I make a habit of taking it, so my 1.8 will be fitted with genuine M-B springs (as are both my other cars), and I'm sure will be the better for it. The rest of the car is in such great original condition, why spoil it for the sake of a few quid? Thank you Andy for being such a trooper. Hope you're better soon. Steve |
