wheel and tye on -40mm springs

Hi all,

I've decided that I can't live with the boat-like suspension on my '92 2.0 auto 190e anymore, so I've just ordered -40mm springs from GSF and will have them fitted next weekend by a mate of mine (the front/rear struts have been replaced less than 1 year ago btw). My question is that I have standard 15 inch, 15 hole MB alloys fitted at the moment (6.5J) and I'm not sure if the current tyres will rub after the suspension is changed to -40mm, especially the tyres on the front, which are 185/65/15 right now, what do you guys think?

I regularly read the forum and I've read that they may be too large a profile for a -40mm drop with size 1 spring pads all round and that I may get rubbing at the point where the wing and bumper meet at the front....the thing is that I don't want to go for a lower profile at the front if I can help it (I will try the wing spacer method if I have issues) because I won't be changing the new rear tyres (currently195/65/15) and I'm worried that different profiles will look strange....for me stance is everything, but I also want the ride that 65/15 profile tyres give as apposed to 55 or 50 profile, which I've had on 15" rims before and I found they totally changed the comfort level. It's my daily so i want comfort but also a lower ride height...I won't be going anywhere near a track so it's about stance and comfort, what do you guys think? Can I have both or do I have to compromise.

As usual, your advice would be great....btw, I'll post some pics soon, once I've finished with some other subtle mods and a bit of a detail after the lowering, cheers.

Hi Chrismatheo,

Thanks for your reply, I will give it a try and see what happens, but it's good to hear that someone else has the same setup I'm going for without any rubbing, cheers.
