Hey everyone, just read that 16v auto transmission pulls away in 2nd gear, regardless of putting it in eco or sport mode. Is this the same on the 2.6? Also read that there's a way to override this feature but i'm still a little confused on how to do it, if it's possible. Could someone explain? Thanks. |

Yes its the same with all 190 auto boxes. To start off in first, move the selector from P or N down into 2, hold it there for a few seconds and then move the selector back up into either 3 or D. The car will then pull away in first gear. Alternatively, floor the throttle all the way down from standstill and it automatically selects first gear. To make sure it revs all the way to the redline in first, you also have to press the kickdown button and keep it held down, otherwise it will not rev all the way to the red line and changes into second at around 3500RPM. Also, as soon as you lift off the kickdown button anytime after 3500 it will instantly change into second, hence why you have to keep it held down all the time if you wish to redline in first gear. They are great and very usable gearboxes once you learn how to use and play around with them Edited by stwat, Sat Oct 3, 2009 5:30 pm.

Thanks, I actually just went out and tried it, I love this car more than ever now. This may be a stupid question, but what it the kickdown button? I tried both methods and it went straight to redline then shifted to 2nd perfectly. |

The kickdown button/switch is under the accelorator pedal. You should be able to feel it 'click' when you fully depress the accelorator. Its what causes the car to change down two gears instead of the normal one gear when its not been pressed. I hope that makes sense

If , when at stop , you pull the gear lever into 2 , you then floor the throttle , it will max in 1st , then 2nd , then you push the lever into 3rd it will hold that gear to the red line . Jereny |
