Good time was had by all, lots of info shared and most importantly we all went home greasy. I think the buzzwords for the day was 'nice cafe' and 'veg line rerouting'. I would also say 'oil slick' too but mums the word ![]() Unfortunately I didnt think to get the camera out until after eddie, adrian and andy (chap from a veg oil forum) left so just the 2 300tds and chris' 190d-2.5d. Chris fitting the oversized fuel filter (after the heat exchanged to help filtering when cold) and bypassing the fuel thermostat. ![]() Nezamr doing the same. Such a tidy clean bay. ![]() Hey look, for once my bonnet isnt open !!! ![]() It was there before he parked, honest guv. ![]() Anyway, its only water ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great day guys, good to meet you all, next gtg your 190d will be there adrian, not long now..... |

And to Reza for his goody bag which consisted of some Viton O rings a spare injector and lots of filtered wvo for my first wvo fill up. Two members of the Veggy gang Kenny left, Reza to the right and my car not looking like a vegetarian ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reza's new toy ...nice ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kenny's heroic high miler ready as ever for its next 400k. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The input joint on the fuel thermostat is plastic and a very common point of failure. When we disconnected Nezamr's it was already failing. Plus, the fuel thermostat is there to stop sending the fuel via the heat exchanger when the fuel is above a certain temp. This temp is quite low as its designed for diesel. When on veg you always want to send the fuel to be warmed so its best to bypass the thermostat for this reason too. There is a tutorial on it somewhere in the alternative fuels section. Its REALLY simple. |

Yeah was good guys. Shame I left before any pics were taken. Thanks Ken for the filter. And glad to see my prefilter after the HE mod is taking off Incidentally, my dashboard lights this morning are not coming on with headlights-is this common? |

The button on the cluster that resets the trip meter is a dimmer for the dash lights. Twist it and see if they come on on as on some clusters that are a little worn if its turned all the way to the right the lights go out. Check the fuses under the bonnet in the fuse box. Failing that its probably a small connection on some unit that I've forgot the name of that's on the back of the cluster that needs soldering. |

Twist the rotary brightness knob, its one of the two either the clock adjust or the trip reset. They are often flakey. |

Ken, what micron do you reckon those extra large filters are? The fact you can literally see the holes in it makes me think it's got to be pretty high i.e. 100 micron? I'd have thought the standard one would be more like 10 micron? |

Standard inline filter is about 80-120 I thought ? Its only the canister filter thats particularly low. Despite what people say about the inline being there to avoid clogging of the canister, I am pretty sure its there to stop bits killing your lift pump. |

Oh really? Ok, didn't realise the standard inline filter was so course. If that's the case then I agree with you. |

Merc diesels have a restriction built into the airbox input, its something to do with flow or perhaps to keep induction noise down but removing it gives you more power and a slightly nicer growl There will be a thread on it somewhere. Its tough keeping this thread on topic given how much info we exchanged on the day !!!

I fear the battery may start to weaken and its a bugger to turn over cold. I think it may benifit from a plug change. Edited by Rich27, Mon Oct 19, 2009 8:47 am.
