Well the beast arrived at the workshop today and I got straight to work stripping the fan cowl, fan, vacuum pump and belt tensioner off. Cleaned off LOTS of crusty cruddy oil from the block and engine bay which appears to have been pouring from the vac pump, ebay replacement brand new £35 on its way. The damper for the belt tensioner was non existent only in form not function, flapping round all over and the belt is scrap due to living on a diet of engine oil. Also identified the diesel leak to the metal line below the car, founs some rust in the rear wheelarch so may plate that up tomorrow. Also picking a load of service type items up tomorrow. I popped the cam cover off too and liked what I saw, spotless cam area with no gunge or nasties also noticed most of the brake lines have been replaced underneath too. I'll update with some pics tomorrow hopefully. Edited by Richy190E, Sat Dec 12, 2009 12:25 am.

Off now to do a bit more, make up the diesel lines (hopefully) and finish lowering it. The replacement bolt kits for the rear arms havent arrived yet so that will have to wait but I have a pair of track rods which need fitting today as the boots on the old ones had split. If I can get the car rolling today I may make a start on stripping the interior but ideally the car needs turning round. We'll see how it goes. It will be time to paint it soon ![]() The towbar will also be removed shortly. |

Well after fighting with rusted bolts all day I finally finished lowering the car. Had a service on my mates camper to do so that kinda halted progress. Still, there is always tomorrow Car looks good, nice and level. Might do a set of tollimans matt black but the contrast of Matt and shiny could be nice. |

I think opinions on the colour will be divided for sure but the truth is it was never going to be a showcar. I just want useable and it all one colour and painting it with a roller is easier than masking it for spraying. I've focussed on getting the engine nice over cosmetics (bar interior, that should be nice.. If its got an ounce of life left in it, it stays unlike my 190 where everything has been replaced underneath. |

Small update, i've replaced all the rotten brake lines with kunifer, replaced all 4 brake flexi's whilst I was at it. Drilled/extracted all the Butchered bleed nipples from the calipers, replaced the lower balljoints (easy with the tool on car) and steering arms. Also fitted the new fuel lines throughout from tank to fuel pump, bought the wheel bearings, drilled out all the rotten bolts holding the brake backplates on the front hubs and repaired the thread on one screw. Ordered a big bag of new bolts for the rear wishbones as I had to cut two of them off due to prior evidence of rounding. When I return on tuesday all that is left is to fit the rear droplinks, bolts, backplates, bearings, new bleed screws, 5.1 brake fluid bleed/flush. The engine runs beautifully after a good flush. Once its rolling again i'll fit the seats and tyres (toyo tr1-s ) then its....MOT TIME!!!!

Well its tuesday....new backplates on, brakes on and bled, wheel bearings replaced and rear wishbones and ARB droplinks are on. The beast fired up first click after standing 10 days and left the workshop under its own steam. A few little jobs to sort ( cosmetic mainly) and she'll be good to go!Its turning out to be quite nice now! Will sort some pics out later in the week. |

Its not a major achievment or anything but im doing my bit to get it back on the road. Trying to think of a theme but struggling. 8 ball or Iron Cross? I think both will go with the matt green paint, or ace of spades. So many choices. I've also got to route all the cabling for the stereo whilst the seats are out. Should hopefully get the tyres mounted this week sometime too :p Im eager to get it on the road so I can pick up the rest of the interior from Kenny. |

I'm off down the garage for a bit to do a bit more and get it a little bit closer to MOT day. I'll take me camera today and get a few shotf, hell I may even wash the dust off ![]() Going to make a start on the interior today I think, pull some speaker cables through and measure up for my sub install. May even get a little bit of fibreglassing done on the pods. |

Well today I ripped the old interior out and lay all my speaker, remote, phono and amp power cables through the car, its coming along nicely now, fitted the new drivers seat to park it back inside. what a difference a good seat makes, no molegrips stopping it from reclining and it doesnt twist all over the place now. Im replacing the speaker cable throughout the car ready for the new speakers to go in. |

Well, guess which idiot thought it would be safe to leave the car in the garage with no antifreeze in! Radiator has gone popski well and truly now ![]() Also my viscous fan seems to be permanantly on as the car was running for 2 hours and struggled to reach 50 degrees so I am ordering a core on monday and making an all aluminium radiator for it, while im at it I may as well weld a boss to the tank and fit a fan switch and fit my new 14" electric fan. My new head unit, amps, cables and speakers have nearly all arrived, just need my parts from MB to arrive (servo feed pipe, which will allow me to stop the engine with the key instead of sucking a hose poking through the dashboard!), drill a hole in the roof for my bee sting aerial and finish her off. Its dragging on a bit but the sound system stuff will keep me amused during xmas. |

Well just a quick update (for my sanity's sake, not that anybody cares lol) Fitted the dashboard speakers - it appears that 124's have odd sized dashboard speakers! Fitted my spangly new headunit - it appears that a P.O didnt posess any idea how to wire a head unit so had to start from scratch! Fitted the rear door speakers, what a nightmare this was, routing cables, cutting holes, repairing doorcards, rewiring crossovers, making speaker spacers! Ordered the kit to fit my front door speakers - no doubt this will be a nightmare too haha. Picked up a heavy duty subwoofer grille for the boot floor. I also made a relay wiring harness for the electric radiator fan im retrofitting and fitted the vacuum pipe for the servo/engine cutoff. I need to make an amp rack now to support both amplifiers in the boot neatly, hook it all up. Its still not painted ![]() |
