There isnt a projects page on this forum so i thought id put it in here! Ive been planning on doing this for months and have asked the advise from loads of people on here. Im still not sure on a few things but im going for it anyway hoping i find clues along the way! I started on the car yesterday at some ungodly hour in the dark! I spend a while getting it jacked up and sorted so i know its stable.... The car is really low so getting it up on ramps was a pain but with loads of wood and stuff i got it up there! The front end i have then jacked up and put it on axle stands. Sorted! I have only got a small garge so space is a bit restricted but ill think ill cope. Started by taking a trip down to Rally Designs in Whitstable to get a braided clutch hose as thats the only part that i didnt have. I actually started work on the car at about 7 ish last night and managed to get quite a bit done as i had to go out at about 9! So far ive taken out the gear selector and replaced it with the manual one and changed the pedal box over and run the resevoir tube up from the master cylinder through the bulkhead and into the brake resevoir. ![]() Manual Selector in place ![]() Out with the old ![]() In with the new! ![]() Ive also from underneath disconnected the prop, undone all the oil cooler pipes and drain the oil from gearbox, torque converter and the excess from the pipes, undone the exhaust bracket, gear box mount off, starting to undo the gearbox to engine bolts but in need of either a longer racthet or air gun! Also disconnected all cables and bits that go to and from the gearbox. Just waiting for a mate to turn up with his longer rachet to see if we can get the rest of the bolts undone. Could do with a compressor but no one seems to have one thats good enough for a air gun, so have to stick with brute force for now! Ill update later with more pics but thats it so far! Nice work. What are you doing about the oil cooler in the rad? Take the pipes off and plug the holes with bolts? I edited to add the pics for you. Make sure you use the 'Image' tab when posting the picture codes and not the 'URL'. Stu Edited by stwat, Mon Nov 2, 2009 2:51 am.

sparky, you did right to put this thread in here as it will be a useful Technical guide for others and it's quite a specific job, but most bigger 'Projects' (engine conversions, bodykit / respray threads) can usually be found in 'Show Off Your 190' ![]() Good luck with this job

We made the conversion a while back, made a small guide in my project thread. Its for the 16v but it basically applies to other models as well http://s14.zetaboards.com/mercedes_190_club/topic/219162/14/#new |

Does the crank or anything need to be re-balanced during this conversion, or do you just drop the parts in and off it goes with a manual box? I. |
