So the numbers listed at the start will also do the 2.0 litre engine?

P
Aye, also the 1.8.

Thanks, the 190 is getting an overhaul, tiny bits of welding and service before its MOT next month, so will get that checked too.

Having said that when did they fit the metal version as standard( or not?), both 190s are 1990?

Make sure you get new bolts and dont over tighten, they snap very easily and are a pain to drill out if they do.
Ordered the Febi kit today; will report on how good it is.
Apologies for the delay.

The Febi metal housing kit (part no. 34700) is effective and a doddle to fit, although it does not come with new bolts.

Just one note: There are three exits on the banjo bolt and none are marked, so I used a marker pen to make sure the pipe was lined up with one of them.

Should be around fifteen quid from a factor.

I've had right old f**kfest with this. Last weekend I flushed the coolant system and matrix on my 1993 1.8 LE. There was a small crack in the cap so while the system was empty I replaced the thermostat and bought a replacement plastic cap and seal from Eurocarparts.
Lo and behold, I noticed yesterday this one was leaking! I removed it and the small nozzle on the top SNAPPED OFF.
I phoned Euro and they said to go after 2pm and there will be one ready. I get there and after waiting in line for ages I check the new one before paying and..........that's right, the nozzle was SNAPPED OFF.
I phoned my local Merc. The cast cap (which comes with the banjo fitting) and the rubber thermostat seal will knock me £48 with VAT. There's a BIG difference between a fiver and forty eight quid but I think this is one of those times I need to put my hand in my pocket.......

But you'll never have to replace the metal one...and it's peace of mind.

Worth asking in the wanted section. A while ago I got one for my 2.6 from...wait for it...member twopointsix. No better bod to do business with - cheers Steve!

You're right mate, I'm driving to Great Yarmouth (a good three hour drive) in it in a few weeks and I want peace of mind. It's worth it and will save me hassle in the future.
My motor is sitting there at the minute with no cap so I'm shooting to Merc first thing and sticking it straight on. Not much pleasure driving the Wife's Hyundai Getz lol

Why are you bothering buying from merc?

I bought a febi one from eBay I think it was.

You could also check scrapyard, I've seen them on plenty of other mercs of the era

I fitted a Febi one on my 2.6 and it very quickly looked old and corroded quite badly, whereas the MB one I fitted on my Coupe 3 years prior still looks like new. Both are still doing their job of course, but there is a significant difference in quality based on my experience.

If I had a time machine I would just buy the Febi one and put on instead of the plastic one feom Euro. I need one tomorrow as I want the Merc on the road.

Trust me, going to the main dealer is VERY rare for me.

Do they have it in stock? They normally have to order in parts for our cars.
