Your Mercedes-Benz Dealership sells them.
Auto or Manual?
There may be a guide on here already.

Yes.
You really should post more detail about your car, otherwise it will take a very long time to explain what you need to do.
Please read through the thread titles in tths section too, as most subjects have been covered at least twice on this forum.

cant realy find much that is exact enough. iv seen that it could possibly be the rubber prop doughnut things which i thaught could be a possibility for some clunking i have.. the other thing i noticed was, say im going down a hill in 3rd and i let off the power, the stick will move back and forth slightly as i put power on and off.

this sounds like play in your gearbox mount to me....... moving slightly as power is transfered through the propshaft.

but aggreed..... more information on your car would be great to help diagnose some problems you are having.

There is alot of play for and aft in 1st and 2nd gear.. Probably about 2 or 3 inches. Is this normal?

This is not normal mate.

Better to go to dealership and buy all the new rubber bushings.
I hope that you don't have gears jumping out as you drive. That would indicate a serious gearbox problem.

Regarding the clank noise I have it on mine and it is same car as yours. Most probably differential HUGE backlash.

I would think its the linkage bushes. Either replace with the OEM rubber or phosfor bronze and take it from there.

Diff backlash?? It's only ever flicked out if reverse once on me, but it's quite vague (spelt right?). There is quite alot of clunking if I'm not smooth on the clutch, hopefuly that's just the prop coupling.
Is there much diffrence in price between the 2 types of bush??
Cheers

Sounds like engine and/or gearbox mounts to me.

The gearshift bushes and clips only cost something silly like a tenner from your local MB dealership, who you should always try for genuine parts :)

There's a pretty decent 'how to' guide on changing the shifter bushes for an M102 manual car over on MBClub, I'll see if I can find you a link :)

If you get under the car and turn the prop side to side taking up any free play you will see if the wear is in the diff or the doughnut links, use a pry bar to lift the gear box up and down to rule out any mounting wear.
