When i release the clutch with the engine in neutral the clutch makes a god awful whining noise and also clunks. knackered release bearing? It also grabs at gears and doesn't always seem to fully disengage making gear changing a clunky affair at times. Worn splines? It also whines in first second and third gears which seems to have got worse in line with the whining of the clutch noise. It definitely needs a new clutch but i'm just hoping the whining through the gears is related to the knackered clutch and not a fooked gearbox. Does that sound likely? My clutch has same symptoms. but no clunking noises yet. I think clunking is due to the release bearing failure, but not sure for the whining noise. |

Well i took it today for a check over with my friendly mechanic. He says the noise isn't that bad compared to many he has heard over the years and the difficulty changing gears at times is most likely the slave cylinder. Very common for these to go belly up on 190's after lots of miles. Mines done 163.000+ on the original clutch and slave cylinder! The whiny gearbox is just that, a whiny gearbox and not the clutch Basically live with it or recon the box for £500+ He says a change of oil should do it a world of good so we shall be doing that on Monday. We will have a look at the slave cylinder at the same time and probably give it a good bleed to see if that helps matters.
