well folks

am currently trying to make the valver road worthy again after lying up for about 14 months. have had a bit of welding done on the chassis as was badly needed and a great job was done.

the hydraulics/sls is next on the agenda. At present the rear suspension is sunk on the left rear side, the sls pipes are rotten underneath in certain spots and the sls fluid is leaking at a rate of knots in the area behind the front passenger side wheel - as seen in the pic.

So first of all new pipes are needed and have been in contact with a mechanic in dublin who can take on at the job (cheers for the tip johnnyboy). Have been given the number of Swagelok in Banbridge about getting the hoses done. I presume copper hosing will be fine for the job. Does anyone know of the specs for the hoses i need, such as diameter, pressure that kind of thing? (this is all new to me now, only know what i read about the system)

So first of all, have ordered a new hydraulics bottle from MB with the seals and filter £35.

second, new pipes are needed and have been in contact with a mechanic in dublin who can take on at the job (cheers for the tip johnnyboy) as i wouldnt know where to start. third, the shocks/spheres. i think the spheres need replacing rather than the shocks reading from other threads. are the spheres the same for all merc models with SLS or are the 190 ones different? reason i ask is that i know where to source OEM spheres for the 300TE SLS system but dont know if they are compatible with our cars.

Cheers

no idea what can be used from other models but i wouldnt change a thing untill you have replaced the leaky pipes

walk before running type of thing :D

once all upto pressure you can stand back and really work out what if anything is wrong with the sls

keep us informed and best of luck

cheers steve

have been trying to compare part numbers on the spheres for other models but having no joy. GSF sell their (spurious) spheres with the same part number for all models so dont see why MB ones should be different

do these look like the ones that fit to the 16v's? saw them on ebay advertised for just about every mercedes with SLS W124's, SL's C-Classes... BUT the 190's. They are bilsteins and half the price that MB want

The brackets don't look the same to me. The ones on mine have a bracket at either end.

Nope, as Stu says they're different.

They look more like the 124 estate or 140 S-class type at a guess, deffo not 2.3/2.5-16 items.
