SLS suspension stuck at highest setting

I just bought a 2.3 16V and the previous owner who is a good friend of mine assured me that the SLS components had been replaced less thean 30k ago.
My problem is that I went to the store and turned the car off. When I came back the rear suspension was at the highest setting and the ride was extremly bouncy.
Is there any way to reset the system? I tried turning the car on and off several times.

Thanks in Advnace.

There is a manual adjustment for the sls , but you would need a ramp for ease .

BUT

If there is a problem this needs to be investigated first .

if it is hard and bouncy, you might need to replace the Spheres.

just check before you take my Word.

The SLS doesn't rise and fall when you turn the car on and off like it does with Citroens.

Im not saying it rose when i turned it off. It may have risen before and I didnt notice, but I parked the car and when I came back the rear was way to high. When I started the car it did not self level it just stayed high up and the shocks became extremely stiff. Could this be a blown fuse?

Surely this sounds more likely that the valve has jammed on the back?

If it was low on fluid or needed bleeding, it'd be low?

Can you post a picture showing the ride height of the car for us to see and advise?

yep as will said it can only be the valve thats at fault that sits under tha car and bolts onto the anti roll bar

as the roll bar rotates it adjusts the sls via a mechanical arm into a mechanical valve, no fuses on this system just mechanics

put the car up a set of ramps if you have some then go under the car from the driverside rear door

a foot in and its above you

remove the 10mm nut that holds the arm to the roll bar or the sls valve then move the arm up or down, one should lower it with the engine running

hope this helps

if not let us all know and we can try again

Thank You for all the information. Sorry it has taken so long but I have taken a picture of what the suspension height is currently at.
Unfortunately I do not have the facilities to put the car on a ramp, however I will be taking it a mechanic who is highly recommended by the previous owner.
If the valve is truly the problem am I to understand that it needs to be replaced or just adjusted?

yep thats it max height

it may be worth just getting on the floor and going under the car as mentioned above (no jacks needed at that hieght) and seeing if the arms come detached from the anti roll bar in anyway

maybe a easy cheap fix if it has

Hi there,

This diagram might help you. It's easy to spot when you're underneath - it sits nearer the middle of the car and has a linkage that connects to the rear anti-roll bar.

BTW, #41 is the linkage, #59 is the valve - as shown in merc190uk's photo above too :)

I think I got mixed up because my car is lhd and your cars are rhd so when I crawled under the drivers side, no dice. Let me see if i can try again.

I was correct I just crawled under again. Sorry for the low quality picture it was from my cell phone.
As I can see I could be wrong it appears that the valve is not connected to the anti roll bar for some reason.

Any advice?

It's quite difficult to see everything properly in that photo, but it looks as though there's your problem :)

That adjustable linkage should be connected from the valve to your anti-roll bar. Has it broken or has something just become detached?

At least it's a fairly easy fix and you know what the problem is ;)

bingo :driver:

well for now if you move that arm down or up  the suspension will lower itself and the car will be 100% drivable untill you get it fixed

it just wont go up when you have a load in the boot/trunk

the part circled to the right should be attached to the part circled on the left

and that arm is the bit you just move by hand for now to lower or raise
only move it an inch or so and when low enough just center it again easier to do than i am explaining

Thank You very much that is exactly what I did, it worked perfectly I'm so glad that nothing serious was broken. After all the previous owner had replaced the accumulators just 30,000 km ago. I wonder how much the part I'm missing is going to cost.

Thank You for all the help again.

well as payment you now have to keep posting on the site and show lots of pictures of your car

depending on how its broken you may be able to get a machine shop to fix it if you cant get just the arm but you maybe able to ?

you need item 41
