Hi all,
would like to put a set of Sportline springs on my standard 190 and was just wondering if they are a straight swap or do i need to change dampers/bushes etc?? I don't want a big drop but think the 22mm the Sportline give would be just right????

Cheers
Tom

Straight swap.

I purchased mine new from Merc - like any second hand part there is will be a reduction in performance from mileage. I didnt want a set that had already done 90K!

sportline cars do have different spec bushes but they don't have to be changed just because you have changed the springs.

It depends if you want the full sportline feel or not?

Have to get them from MB but they are fine with existing shocks. £220 for the set of 4 as I remember. If you could get a set of sports shocks as well it would totaly trasform the car.

thats a great help guys! Im not after the complete 'Sportline' package, just want to get rid of some of the body roll, plus i like the Sportlines stance! £220 for brand new Mercedes items sound like the best way to go! I'll get my Merc specialist onto it as soon as i have some funds!

To reduce body roll you need to change anti-roll bars as well.
There are several posts regarding this upgrade. for the front ARB it is easy to change but the rear is more difficult.

Tom, I've just picked up a set of sportline springs from a Jap import 190e 2.6 (reasonably easy to do in Aus), which I'm matching to Bilstein HDs and a set of 15 inch AMG monoblock I's. Like you I too hope to see a great improvement in the general disposition of the car.

Cheers

I run a 2.6 with retro-fit Sportline dampers with 40mm lower Eiabach springs, albeit on 17" AMG monoblock (german replica) rims. You may find, as I do, that the chassis becomes taut, but you then have the strange mis-match between this and the steering, which obviously remains slow and not at all sporting. Perhaps you have superb flexibility and don't mind twirling your arms round and round. LOL!!!!

I have been informed that a Sportline steering box is a straight fit, which requires less turns lock to lock, but no one has yet confirmed or denied this - although I certainly hope it can be done to complete the package and give a more cohesive feel!

Beware guys, I have read on here that a 190 steering box swap is an engine out job because of the location, although this could be incorrect.
It's true though, the sportline/16v box is worth having, makes a heck of a difference to steering feel.

On a budget though, a set of lowering springs on their own does give noticeable results, and I think you'd be pushed to find better quality than the Merc sportline items.
