I've noticed that Blodwyn (2.3-16) occasionally makes a strange noise at the back, a sort of high-pitched droning, but only when moving. It's a sort of intermittent hum wnich stops when the car does. The handling is crisp and very sharp, but I suspect a looming fault with the SLS.

Or could it be something else?

Has anyone encountered this? All my cars have SLS but I've never come across this before.

Thanks in advance...

Have you eliminated your petrol pumps (rear left) and diff?.Where is the noise coming from. Get someone to travel in the back to listen

No, I don't think it's a differential noise, as it's intermittent, but I suppose I can plonk her on a rolling road. It sounds more like a fuel pump noise, about which I've learned q. a lot recently!

I hope it's the pump - cheaper...

Agree Rob. Most likely one of the fuel pumps. As you say not so expense but a warning to do something.

not quite true jeremy...........................it can be a rear wheel bearing,i learnt this the hard way.................i heard the droning, jack the car off the ground and checked both rear wheel bearings.........no play !! so i presumed it was the diff, i got another diff.................and it wasnt until i hade the car off the ground and lossened the driveshaft nut on the passenger side wheel and was removing the driveshaft it became apparent it was the bearing,as i pulled the driveshaft out,the wheel just flopped about.......................yet when the driveshaft was in place it was tight, with no play.............................i have said this a few times, the only way to properly check a rear wheel bearing is to loosen the driveshaft nut,tap the driveshaft in a few mm's ;)

Had this a couple of times. Usually it gets less noisy if you take a sharp corner in one direction and noisier the other way round.

The unloaded wheel is the one with the faulty bearing, ie: quiet on a left hand bend means left hand wheel!

hi

had my SLS removed and the trumpet like noise is still there...so its not the SLS..also noticed that the noise was still there even if the car was stationary..got under the damn thing in summer and discovered that its petrol related..some kind of pressure relief...
