The cursed 190e!; Transmission lever n selector rod probs

I've been progressively fixing problems in this car, and as at yesterday I thought all was done. Then...

This evening, when coming home, I moved the transmission lever from D to P and bang, the lever is no longer connected to anything! :'(

Now, if I look under the car I can see what I think is the selector rod hanging down. I'm guessing the circlip that holds the selector rod to the lever has come adrift, and this should be an easy fix. Any views or experience on this?

Also, given I need to put the car on axle stands, where is the best place to put them on a car with a 16v body kit? <edit> don't worry on this one, just figured out that the rubber knobs under the jacking points are where the stands go.

Thanks for any assistance.

Rob

Yep, either the circlip has pinged off or the stub has pulled out of the selector rod. The bushes will probably need replacing too.

Thanks Richy - I actually had the bushings done 1,000km ago, so shouldn't be a problem.

Is it just the circlip, or is there a plastic spacer in there as well?

All solved. It took me more time to put the car up on an axle stand than to make the repair.

I used a hardware store circlip, and while not the perfect fit will hold until next week.

Thanks again
