Out of curiosity what speeds/revs are reached in each gear on the 2.0 auto. Sitting at about 70mph mine is around 3.5k revs I think, is this right? I did have a quick search around but nothing came up, either that or I'm being blind

Yep, mine's about the same. I think it's just a case of the auto in the 190 being the old 4-speeder, my mate had a C250TD with the 5-speed auto, which seemed more relaxed at speed. Doesn't help with my last 190 being a 5-speed manual either.... |

Thanks sj190, sorry I completely missed that! Andy I'm in the same boat as you then. My last 190 was a 1.8 manual that seemed a little more relaxed at speed. It just almost feels like the car is reaching for another gear. Makes a difference when I jump out of my 350z into the 190 as the 350 feels far more relaxed at high speeds but then again that's a 6 speed manual. Glad it is normal though. |

Mine has got approximately 20 km/h every 500 rpm:s, meaning 120 km/h -> 3000 rpm. Of course, this is a 1.8 manual 5-speed benz, and fifth gear is never used if I want to have fun. Converting 70 mph to km/h makes ~112km/h. At least on mine it seems the engine has got no torque below 2.5k rpm, but above this the car gets pretty comfortable to drive, even on highways. |

Yep, it sounds like the engine is screaming at 70mph but 3500 rpm is about right. I like the cruise at 60mph in my 190 which is around 3000rpm. |

I think 3000-3500rpm is the optimum revs for tourque and MPG. Any lower at those speeds and the cars tend to strugle and use more petrol. I'm sure MB knew what they were doing when they designed these cars
