so as i mentioned in my noob forum post my initial transmission broke. so in order to get my car running again i attempted what no one else (at least in the US) has ever tried. i wanted to install a 2.3 5-spd into my 16v until i could get another Getrag. (parting 16v in the states is ridiculous) suffice to say it didn't work because i could not afford to get another drive shaft made. SO i finally got another Getrag and I am now attempting to install it. However it seems that the 2.3 transmission like the 16v a bit too much. it's stuck, yes everything has been removed, it actually pulls back about 2" then it feels like it hits something and it won't go any further. what i suspect is that when it was swapped out there was no lubrication installed on the shaft and it's rusted in. and my bearing is probably shot as well. but i still need to get this trans out. any ideas or suggestions? my last resort is to cut the 2.3 transmission out, but i'd like to avoid that seeing as how i could sell it or use it for a conversion swap. keep in mind this is all done by a shade tree mechanic (me and other 190 owners), the front end is jacked up to remove the transmission like the haynes book says the back trans plate is still installed. i'm not trying to pull this by tweaking the spindle |
