My local body shop has had the car in for a while now as the owner is doing it as a bit of a favour on the cheap as i found him some cheap Mitsubishi parts from australia haha. Pretty much its got both rear wings replaced, new inner arches fabricated, lots of little bits of new metal for the boot and wheelarch as well as bodykit mounting points. Its pretty much getting a full respray in the end by the looks of it, so im not complaining haha, only bits that wont be painted are the body kit pretty much as the matt finish on it is still quite nice without any chips. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks like a good job your getting, my Amandine 2.6 is looking a bit tatty after all this bad weather, there is a slight crease in the drivers door and a few scratches and stone chips have appeared does anyone know the going rate for blowing over a 190? |

a decent respray you should budget 3000 pounds i reckon cos u never know whats under the bodykit, mine is case in point, lots of tiny bits of rust that u cant ignore. Ive heard of very good jobs being done for only 1500-2000 but that was on cars that were very clean to start with, just badly aged/sun damaged paint etc. A cheaper option is something similar to mine, like, mine isnt having the bodykit or bootlid done, as the bootlid was only done like 18 months ago and is a very good finish that should look identical to the new paint with a polish, and the bodykit is a slightly different paint and its all fine, and since its meant to be a different colour im not really bothered about renewing it lol. one thing i did want to ask people is opinions about how to freshen up an avantgarde grill. Mine is the chrome type with black painted chrome slats. As per usual, is peeling. so my question is should i either strip it and leave it with the underneath chrome, repaint it black, do the "electrical tape" trick ive heard about on here or just replace it (about 65 quid!!!!) locve that sticker on the back ^^ my full respray was only 2k, but took him 6 months and was cash under the table kinda thing. had my grill sprayed the same colour as the car, with the gloss black redone , since the stars been pulled off the paint has chipped though

Since your going to all this trouble in getting the car right, I'd encourage you to buy a genuine original new/used grill and buy a new emblem too.

im getting a new emblem, but ive actually got an original grille that came with the car lol, but im 20, so shiny black avantegarde grill appeals haha. anyway, i change my mind so often that by the time i get the car back ill probably want to put the original grille back haha. yeah crysak thats the way mines being done too haha. and the sticker is a bit of a joke with one of my lecturers who has helped me out with contacts to keep the rebuild nice and cheap (still kills my student budget, i was the only one at uni who had saved before i got there, now im more broke than everyone else hahaha). Pretty much he has an Ur-Quattro in that lovely champagne colour with the black audi decal on the door. so the decal was to see if i could annoy him a little lol. 5 quid well spent ![]() |

Contamination to the surface prior to painting. You need to degrease it and leave it alone for an hour or so for the 'Juices' to come out of the plastic. Did you fit the idle valve? |

hi mate, yeah, its fitted and works perfectly, i sent a PM about it but i think theres soemthing wrong with my pm system cos ive sent ones to heaps of people that didnt get a reply. thanks so much for your help with that, really appreciate it! the contamination thing makes sense, i cleaned it with degreaser...but i only left it about 5 mins before i painted... |

That is rather tempting... But a friend of mine gave me an idea yesterday to paint the gloss black parts of the avantgarde grille satin black which should offset the chrome strips nicely. I'm going to try it today. If it turns out nicely I'll post pics |

The car has been painted now and they've started piecing her bakc together!! i should have it back within the next couple of days Pretty much the whole car except the bootlid has been painted, the bootlid was replaced a couple of years ago and apparently the paint job is very good and will mop to match the rest of the finish, and i trust the bloke cos the rest of the finish is absolutely incredible. I was originally quoted to have two rear arches repaired, one front, a door painted and the bonnet. In the end, the price has stayed the same but hes painted the whole car including all the body kit and roof, only part not done was the aforementioned bootlid. so far whats been done: rusty front wing replaced, rear inner and outer wings cut out and replaced with repair panels, boot floor had quite a few bits cut out and new metal welded in and was resealed, he also cut out a few bodykit mounting points that looked a bit suspect and welded in new metal and cut new holes. they then went over the car with a fine-tooth comb and prepped every panel (except bootlid) and all parts of the bodykit for paint and then painted. now the cars being put back together and they even sorted a couple of electrical gremlins for me (touchy alarm and rear window that decided it didnt like to work sometimes) so yeah, heres some pics of it this afternoon!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

next job is heading back to kingswinford tyres cos my powerflow i bought in june has an internal rattle, then getting the alloys refurbed. other than that i want to renew the propshaft as ive got the damper and bearing kit, and then im changing one of the sls struts as the bottom mount has seen better days. the only thing in the forseeable future is springs cos they're lookin past their best. overall im really happy with it! |

got the car back, its looking epic. ill post pictures in the morning ![]() Now gotta sort the following b4 the midlands GTG : wheels refurbed get exhaust rattle sorted propshaft centre bearing and damper repalced (got the parts) replacement sls strut installed (got that too lol) possiblly repaint rocker cover (looks rubbish now and is embarrassing considering the engine is brand new) BUT heres the bit I really need opinions about, since the bootlid is the only unpainted panel...i figured i may do some work in that department and have it painted to match the rest after installing...an EVO1 spoiler... opinions? it'll be a while yet as ive gotta save up cos i last heard Nickaliath's going rate for one was 300 quid which rather hurts on a student budget haha, but what do you think? Ive spoken to the body shop and my idea was to have the "legs" of the spoiler and the adjustable flap on top in black with the Sides and big flat part in almandine, and that'll cost me 80 quid to get painted and fitted. |

700 pounds, i was quoted for just sorting the rust on three of the arches and repainting half a door...then i managed to source the guy and his son some parts from australia they needed for their old mitsubishi race cars (Lancer ex2000 turbos). Because a version of the lancer was built in australia parts are fairly easy to come by there, whereas here mitsubishi dealers and even specialists will just laugh you out the door So cos i got them the bits they needed they did a full respray. well, it wasnt engine out and the door jambs werent done, but everything else was including inside the boot. (except the bootlid cos of the evo1 plan) It looks pretty good right now but im having some second thoughts bout the evo spoiler...I mean, i really like the look, but its not a cheap option and even though i don think ill sell it anytime soon, i dont want to lower the value ...on the other hand, putting back the original spoiler if it puts people off cant be that much of a mission, but yeah, i dunno what to do lol Edited by vaggeli, Sun Feb 21, 2010 2:57 am.

FINALLY lol, got some photos for you guys, Its not quite done yet as its going to get the alloys refurbed tomorrow and then im going to do a nice Dodo Juice Supernatural wax on it. As it is, this was after it was washed using an Autoglym shampoo, clayed with Bilt HAmber clay using Dodo Juice Born Slippy clay lube and dryed with some nice microfibres. I then gave some parts of the car a bit of prep using Dodo Juice Lime prime and then put on a couple of very thin layers of Poorboys Natty's Red paste wax. Ive never used this wax before but really have to recommend it, makes the car look wonderful (doesnt show the gloss with my sh!tty camera that well) its a paste wax that goes on easier than any paste I've used. I normally stick with dodojuice products and have also used swissvax, meguiars and autoglym ones and first impressions of this are that its pretty good. In a few hours once the wax has cured ill probably give the car a coat of Dodo Juice Red Mist tropical quick detailer to give it a long lasting "wet gloss" look, this final stage is really underrated and makes a huge difference. Anyway, ill stop babbling and post some pics eh, and once the wheels are sorted ill do a proper detailing and step by step guide showing it all in the relevant section of the forum lol. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by vaggeli, Sun Apr 11, 2010 4:52 pm.
