Rev Counter And Fan Clutch Not Working

I was trying to connect the power to one on my heated washer jets the other day and must have shorted it out because number 10 fuse blew.
This protects the fan clutch, washer nozzles, rev counter, heated mirrors and the outside temp gauge.

I replaced the fuse today which got everything working apart from the fan clutch and the rev counter :(

I have done the paper clip trick with the fan clutch sender but no joy. There is no power going to it.

Does anyone know if there is relay which the fan clutch and rev counter share? Or maybe another hidden away fuse?

When I removed my bonnet I replaced it without connecting the wire to the heated washer jets and the rev counter didn't work till I reconnected the jets. A bad connection there might be the cause of the rev counter not working.

I don't think there is a relay for what you ask, but, you may have blown the fuse on your Voltage Protection Relay, there may be two or only one on the top of it check them,

Looking again at the circuit diagram, the'cooling fan' and 'washer nozzle heater' use the same 'Earth'

so it looks like maybe that has come adrift or snapped. ;)

OVP fuses are fine.

Any idea where the earth is for them actually is?

Cheers.

Haven't a clue, as I only looked at the C.Diagram but you could follow the wires (normally Brown)

I take it you're not conversant with Circuit diagrams ?

On page 12.16 top left of the Haynes is the diagram you want to be looking at.

numbers 9 = cooling fan magnetic clutch and number13 is the washer nozzle heater,

and out of one side of number 13 it goes to earth and I would imagine the colour will be brown

that's the bit of wire I would be checking first, failing that it will probably be relay number 10.

Hope that helps a bit.

Barrie.

Thank you so very much mate :) That's exactly what had happened. The two earth wires which should be connected via one connection had both broken on the wire leading to the nearside heated nozzle.

All fixed and the fan clutch and rev counter are now working again B)

Many thanks,

Stu

Hi,

Two days ago I had the same problem. My rev counter died and the temp is on the high side.
Thought of the washer nozzle wires shorted (I had a full body re-spray where the painters took it off and maybe reinstall it wrongly) but when I I check and pull it out,the same thing happens.
Replaced the no 10 fuse, but it broke a couple of time.

So today I did re-wiring and separating the aircon relay, the aircon fan relay and the clutch fan relay.
Also re-did the wiring to the fan switch and re-wired all the earthing and added a separate fuse for the clutch fan before going into the clutch fan switch. All in all it took me close to 5 hours DIY to re-track the wires, soldering, clippings and all.

All is well, the no 10 fuse is ok now and the rev counter is working but when I did a test on the fan switch, the separate fuse blowed. Then only realised the culprit must be the clutch must be shorted.
Now am running with no fan.

What is more recommended...change the clutch fan or convert to electric fan?
The electric fan I have mind will be from the breakers from a Volvo 940 rad fan.
Reason being the clearance is just about with the shroud and all.

Or if want to maintain the clutch fan,can I just service it or install a new one?
