ok i have figured out where most of the plugs and pipes are supposed to go but this end of the loom is a bit beyond me i think the loose wires are supposed to go into the fuse box but the plug is confusing me do i need the other half of the plug and if so where does it come and go to???

Hi Alan,

Have you been following the diagram on Page 12.22 in the Haynes ?

As by that there should be seven wires going into the Relay (I should imagine up underneath the relay above the footwell, but I'm not sure where that Relay is positioned), Ah yes I've found it, it is positioned in the 'Relay Box' in front of the 'fuse box' and as you look at the box from the front of the bonnet it is Position 'D' which is the (I think) the front left one farthist from the fuse box.

I would be inclined to think that that part of the loom was cut off as it would have to go through the bulkhead to the inside of the car with a plug on the other end to plug into the Relay.

Try and get your head round that lot Alan, lmao

I take it you have the other three plugs on the loom.- one for each wiper motor and one for the pump (washer bottle)

It sounds like you will have to make up a continueation loom from the cut wires to underneath the relay.

It might be better for you to get that plug New from MB if you can and then by the patern of it you will soon work out where it should plug in. ;)

The cut wires look the same as what is currently fitted to the car but the plug I think must be for the wipers as this loom seems to be for part of the lights aswell I think that's the cut wires

Hi,

From what I can see there should be a four pin plug going to the RH wiper unit,

And a three pin plug going to the LH wiper unit,

Then seven wires going to the Wiper Relay of which two browns go to connection 5

and the violet/yellows go in at connection 4, it is possible that there should be a 5 pin plug for the Relay.

then two wires 1 brown and one black/yellow/red go to the headlight washer pump.

Then you should be left with three wires , violet/yellow to the Windscreen washer pump,

Voilet/ yellow to the Washer feed, and a grey/red to the headlight feed.

What I meant to ask is, that plug in the picture does it fit anywhere, possibly to one of the HL wiper units.

And is there ANY other plugs with the loom ?

Cheers Barrie.

that is the end of the loom that is at the fuse box

the other end of the loom has the motors on it and the pumps and plugs for the drivers side head light hence why i think that the cut wires are from the fuse box would the head light wipers have a seperate relay

Hi,
Yes the headlight wipers do have a seperate Relay of its own, I think I tried to explain where in my first post, it is in the extra relay box in front of the fuse box, the top of it just snaps on and off I think.
But I also think that the wires to it will have to connect to the 'relay' inside the car, not certain about that though. and you will need a plug for it, I believe a Five pin plug.

Hi,

You won't need to look at the 'fuse box', just the "Relay box" and how to get to the plug underneath it.

Which you will also need, it should be pretty straight forward really, and a length of the cable too.

Then if you get that it will be just a case of routing it into the engine bay and connecting the matching wires ;)

But if you're unlucky and it's gone I don't think a new relay and plug will bend your back at the Dealers.

You might be right alan, the last relay I bought from the stealership cost £18 for the window winders and it is practically the same as the window wiper one just the pin numbers are different. Anyway good luck and stick at it

You'll 'crack it'

I think you are going to need to get underneath the 'Relay box' to find that out alan.

Sorry alan I thought they all had a seperate box for the extra relays in front of the fuse box, according to the book it should be so up to 1993. but I think yours is a later model, maybe they have put it somewhere else.

I still can't believe it alan, I've been through my german W/S manual too and all 190s have an "auxillery relay box", normally with places for four or five relays depending on the spec.
Maybe for RHD models it could be on the opposite side of the engine bay. but it should have it even if none of the places are occupied, ready for up-grading.

Hi Alan,

Have a look on page 12.3 in the Haynes, bottom right corner there's a picture of the Relay Holder with the plastic cap removed.

If it isn't fitted MB are probably saving money as mine is a 90s model and it's standard fitting. lmao

Anyway let me know how it goes with the wireing and the Relay, but I think you will need to buy a plug for that end of your loom.

What do you mean "current wires" ,

and you won't need to take the fuse box out. ;)

And you cannot just wire the 'headlght washer/wiper system' into the 'headlight system',

they are two complete seperate circuits apart from the grey/red wire,

and the relays are completely different.
