Sounds like a fault in the door open switch. I`m wondering if all the wires are back as they should be? Edited by Rich27, Tue Mar 2, 2010 12:40 pm.

Its quite simple when you know how! The diode under the fuse box has blown. It allows the windows to have power when the ignition is turned on but stops the return flow to the switch itself by letting the current flow one way only. Not an unusual fault. Get along to maplins and buy a new diode (1N3001) for a few pence and solder it in to the holder. Just make sure the silver band is the same way round as the old one. You need to take the cover off under the steering columnto getaccess to the underside of the fuse box and a torch to see what youre doing. Pull out the holder with a pair of pliers! Have fun!

Hey Ben, Isn't the diode for the comfort operation..?? If the windows work with the doors open doesn't that mean the diode's O.K...?? Or did I mis understand a previous thread that I saw..?? Cheers. Cosser..!! |

The door switch lets power to the windows when the ignition is off and the door is open. The diode lets power to the windows when the doors are closed and the ignition is on. Hope that helps! |

At the MB Stealership the Diode Pn. 201 540 11 81 costs £10.20 and is listed as a 'Pillig Socket'. Footwell cladding off, seat right back, and back in fully recline, and then on your back and slide down with a torch between the steering wheel and seat untill the back of your shoulders are on the floor in the foot well, and you will see it in position 'F' it should pull out with your finger and thumb, as it has a tab on it to grip for removal and replacing. There is a lot of cables up there so you might need the aid of something to prize them out of the way. Hope that helps. |

With the maplan one you will have to go up under the fuse box twice. 1- to take the plug out. 2- to put it back in after you have changed the diode in the plug. (soldering) So for the price of a tenner, me being a lazy OLD bar5tard I couldn't be ar55ed . |
