A bit of advice needed about the brackets which mount the front bumper, short story I got hit yesterday by a set of temp. traffic lights being dragged along behind a bus :crying: The lights caught the front bumper and and bounced off along the road still being pulled by the bus, I was sat there waiting for the lights to change lmao when this unlikely event took place.
The bumper has a scratch but no breaks except for the metal bracket where it fits the body and the bracket under the indicator. Looking at the parts site, behind the bumper is a metal face bar, does this hold the bracket which bolts to the body? Without taking the bumper off I can't work it out so any pointers would help. My initial thoughts are to get a second hand bumper and swop the hardware over onto mine.
Thanks in advance
Viffer

PS
If you want the full story ask lmao

theres a square rubber mount at the each end of the bumper.there not on the front bar although it looks like you can remove it.but ull have to have the impact strip off.

the metal bracket which the bumper bolts to under the indicator is part of the inner wing.

theres also 4 bolts on the front of the bar.

i have a front bumper if you need it.

only 16v bumpers have full metal bars running the length of the bumper.....................other 190 bumpers have a composite fibre bar with 2 small metal brackets that fix the bumper to the car.

190 bumper do come apart into sections...................metal bar/ fibre bar with brackets, the main body of the bumper itself, the foam of the impact strip, and the impact strip itself.

so if you have damaged the fibre bit with the metal brackets................................yes it is possible to get another bumper and put bits from your bumper on it ;) .....................word of warning though, the 2 screws keeping the impact strip on at each end,do corrode and sometimes break

A bit of a heads up regarding the metal brackets which attach the bumper to the body. I picked up a second hand bumper this morning, wrong colour but I needed the brackets more than the bumper. They were showing quite a bit of rust but I managed to unscrew them with a bit of effort. The bumper on the car was only being held by the one bracket since the incident earlier in the week so came off easily.
Once off I could see what had happened to the bracket, it was very badly corroded and the smack on the bumper had done the rest. Had to grind off what was left of the bracket and then mount the "new" one and it's now on securely for now.
Just done a check on the cost of new brackets and they are about £9 each so not too bad, so I'm going to order some new ones to fit later.
My car is a '93 model so one of the later ones, my advice is to have a look at your brackets the next time you are under the car, they seem to rot very well and you'd not know until the bumper drops off :crying:
