Hello there, I was under the merc yesterday changing gear linkage bushes and discovred a hek of alot of oil that seem'd to be rearwards of the front of the box ( so it's probably the box that is leaking?) I had a good look about but couldn't see anywhere. Anyone kno of common places that the box leaks? It seems to all be forward of the prop aswel so can't be that seal. |

Usually the box does not leak. It is most probably oil from the rocker cover, or could be brake fluid from leaking clutch slave cylinder. I think the worst scenario would be a leak from the gearbox output shaft. |

Found this on the net when I was homeworking my 190e, might help you a bit • Around 120,000 miles, valve stem seals wear and cause the engine to burn oil, which contaminates the catalytic converters and causes them to fail. • High mileage vehicles can leak from the transmission oil seals. • High mileage or older vehicles develop leaks at the differential seals and cover; the whole unit needs to be resealed to repair the leaks. |
