Hi Jason, There's loads on Detailing World - but these guys will mainly be pro detailers - expect to pay £££ for the job, £200/300 isn't unusual. You could do one of two things if you're looking to save some cash: Have a good read up on the detailing world forums, and buy some gear to do this yourself. No idea what the current state of your car is, but you can achieve pretty good results with plenty of elbow grease by hand - decontaminate the paint first, use a cutting/compound polish first, then work onto a finer polish and wax/sealant to finish. Or if you're feeling a bit more confident, invest in a entry-level polishing machine - bonus is you will get to keep it for the future ![]() Other option would be to visit some of the local bodyshops near you and ask them about machine polishing your car. If you have time, you could thoroughly wash it and clay-bar the paint etc beforehand - then they can polish it by machine for you. Might be cheaper/easier than some of the expert detailers would charge, but with broadly similar results for what is after all a fairly old car now. Will |

Cheers Will, i think ill just take it to a bodyshop as funds are abit low (im a student u see ) and ill probably wash it before hand and get it machine polished from there. Its just faded paintwork due to age i guess and the guy who had the car before me i believe, left the car parked under a tree for months...you can imagine the marks left by the bird excrement on the roof!!! ive had the car for three years and have a small polishing machine of my own which has proved useful, but im in need of a BIGGER change

If it's just faded paintwork you want to improve then it's perfectly within the realms of DIY. Detailing world is a useful forum, but to be honest some of the levels of effort that are put in are fine perhaps on concourse show cars - fully restored cars with £10k paintjobs, exotica, supercars and nearly new/mint cars - can be a bit offputting for the beginner. You don't really need to spend hundreds of £££s on equipment - snow foam lances, £200 polishers, £100 waxes etc to make a tired car look beautiful. Have you tried to polish the car already? Depending on the paint (is it clearcoated/lacquered) then the fading might be easier to polish up than you think. I have plenty of compounds, polishes, waxes etc that you are welcome to try if you are local. I wouldn't class myself as a 'detailer' but I like to keep my cars presentable and have tried many things over the years. Will |

ive given it a couple of polishes with the mini polishing machine ive got and it has made a small difference, but on the whole the car still needs a touch-up... its an 8v in midnight blue and the colour seems dull and patchy in places, and i was told by the guy who washes my car as-well as a few friends that buffing or mopping will make a big difference. would the buffing/mopping be done by a body shop or would a standard valeting service do the trick? im a newbie and am not entirely sure about my way around with body work care...i would rather have someone who knows what theyre doing to do it cheers jason |
