I have been tidying up inside the boot area. Removed the arch covers etc and treated some rusty bits. Now I don't mind painting the bits that can't be seen with some black Hammerite or similar but the bits that are fairly visible like under the boot mat and the spare wheel well I would like to try and keep original as possible. But inside the boot and the inner wings appear to be a slightly different colour to the bodywork. Is there likely to be a paint code for this or is it just a case of trying to find something that is as close as possible. Not 100% sure but it seems more like a smoke silver colour. |

I've had seven 190s and the boot has always either been painted in a dark grey or satin black. I had to carry out some minor repairs to the spare wheel well on a car I currently have, so I removed the inner liners and sprayed the boot with satin black, which was a pretty good match for the existing boot floor paint. See picture below. A word of caution. Make sure you use a primer before the top coat - for some reason the original paint seems to react unfavourably to some rattle can paints - even acrylic based ones.

Your 190's boot should be dark gray in colour.

Thanks for that, and the pic. Well that looks good actually, that satin black looks a lot better than a full gloss finish. I may just go down that route myself. Thanks again. |

The original colour is dark grey as gibpetrolhead states. I am sure there is an MB Paint code for this but you should be able to get a ''near as be damned'' match from an autoparts stoor. |

Not sure about other later cars, but my Signal Red 1993 1.8 has a body-coloured boot interior. The underside of the bootlid is Black. ![]()

Not necessarily true. See both my and Neil's posts. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. These cars were produced in two factories over a 10 year period. There will always be some minor differences. As for painting to retain originality, in my view as long as when you open the boot the paint is of consistent quality - either car coloured, grey or black - it doesn't really matter: unless you are planning to enter a concours competition and wish to please some eagle-eyed judge. And to prove my point - of the 440,000 cars produced by Mercedes' Sindelfingen factory in 1998 - how many do you think were totally identical? The answer is THREE! |
