190 goes into the bodyshop tomorrow to get priced up for sorting all the rust out. Little bit of bubbling poking out from the kit on the rear wings, and also the dreaded area at the bottom of the rear screen.... I'm getting nervous already, wanna place any bets on the potential size of the bill! It's getting done at a local place, 2 old boys, one apprentice and a shed. No technology (they don't even have a PC, let alone a website) and they take their own sweet time on it, however they do a beautiful job and take real love and care over their work...There's no reason for this post, other than the fact that my wife thinks I'm nuts (so I can't express my nerves to her!) and none of my colleagues care a jolt about old Mercs!!

It all depends on what they find under the body kit when it's removed and the rear screen when it comes out...... ......ask Marv. On second thoughts, don't ask Marv - he's upset enough already

The "Bit of bubbling" you speak of is guaranteed to go all the way to the edge , under the trim . It nearly always does ![]() So be prepared to have quite a bit of metal cut away , you can check this by running you fingers along the inside edge of the trim , be careful tho' rust edges can hurt ! It's an exciting time... Lol! I'm dropping it off tonight and they'll start stripping it down tomorrow. Deal is they'll call me when they have a decent idea of how much it's going to cost. Running hands along insides of the wings and there are no sharp edges but the bottom of the window (which they've already had a look at) is going to be nasty. They've given me an idea of cost, I think it's a bit optimistic... On an alternative note, my temporary car (while the 190 is being worked on) is a 899cc Fiat thingumy! I've never driven anything so slow....

Well, just 'cos I like to read updates to these things... I got the quote. Because I am stupid when I was offered the option of 'patching up and glossing over' or 'doing a proper job' I chose the latter... As such I'm now replacing two rear wings and having all the rot cut out from the bottom of the rear window.Suffice to say if it was an insurance claim the car would be a write off! Lol! |
