I have to remove half shafts from the replacement diff that I've sourced. I need a 12 point 'star' profiled key (not unlike an allen key or a torx key) to be able to undo them. See photo. ![]() If anyone can help with a part number, I'd be most grateful. Are they the same on any other Mercedes Benz models? Cheers chaps in anticipation. I can't help you with the part number Mike but when i was replacing some driveshafts on the porker i went to my local car parts place and bought a cheap 5 peice set of star fitments. Mind you i had a bolt to take in with me to check the size which made it a bit easier. Im sure they would exchange them for the correct size if you did buy some and they didn't have the correct size in the set. |

if you cant get correct tool try something that is square it might get the 4 corners and be tight enough with a bit of elbow grease you might get it loose. |

Stu, I do know it's a 10mm, as my Mechanic (Richy190e) says so.....and that's good enough for me! My experience with cheap sockets (Black Spur and the like) hasn't been good, so I am trying get the pukka jobbie from MB Spares. Just thought I ask the forum, incase someone has already purchased one (or even have one they'd like to sell )Cheers all the same, it is a last resort though, thanks. Yes allen keys do fit but they tend to chew the bolts up. (i know that from experiance, hench me buying the star fitments ) Thankfully i had some spare bolts to put back in.

Your welcome mike, i have done this many a time with hex bolts and the like, sometimes a good flat screw driver, or something with 4 good corners, that wont knurl under force and sheer of causing you to lose an eye or something. I second you on that regarding cheapo tools that simply sheer or knurl under force just a waste of time and money, like the ones you get in petrol sation for 5.99 after you filled up with 30L of fuel otherwise they are 10.99 those are such a con. Mike if it comes of clean just clean it and keep it, dont throw it away. might cost 1.50 ex vat at mercs lol if you have space to store that is

Thanks Richy, it's all yours to fight with..... However, MB Direct have ordered one for me, so once it arrives, I'll post the part number for the forum members I just like to collect tools, even if I don't know if I'll ever use them... I have a 3-ton trolley jack and an AA membership, but I bet you can guess which one gets used??? |
