windscreen wiper motor not working; Wipers failed

Hi,
Windscreen wiper switch only works in fast position. Even in that position single blade needs help to move across screen. It has got progressively weaker over the last few months. I have oiled the oscillating shaft - no improvement. When it is working - albeit slowly, I can easily stop it with my hand. Has the motor failed? Can I put new brushes in it?
Any ideas,
Richard Cattermole

best bet is to pull the lot out
not that difficult and think we have a diy thread on this subject

then oil/grease the lot
remove the motor and open the case up

clean all the old grease out and freshen it up

then with it in bits you can remove the base cover from the arm and oil/grease inside that two

if that dont work then just get a motor from a breaker on here

all the best

If you can't get the four screws under the base cover off, spray lots and lots of white grease into the drain holes using the red tube that comes with the cans. I emptied about half a can inside and it cured my slowing down problem.

Hi - have just had to change the motor on my wiper - its a pretty poor quality underpowered unit. I stripped the motor and found one of the 3 brushes had burnt off its mounting - they are not easily replaceable - I got a second hand motor with all the linkages from ebay for £19. I stripped the motor and re-greased as suggested and it now works a treat. You can get a brand new unit from Mercedes but you will need to re-mortgage your house.
Check on ebay now you will see theres still one motor left at £19-99 being sold by robparkerw124 of 3 Pointed parts - these guys are V V helpful answering your questions and sending out parts v quick - I also got an ABS relay from them

Cheers
Robin

I had the same problem, the fault is in the motor. Got one motor from the breaker and had it replaced. Since I had to remove the complete wiper unit out to replace the motor, I took the opportunity to stripe the wiper mechanism, clean and grease also. The wiper is working perfect.
