Any technical info is good Mazza, I'm pinning this in the Engine section. ;)

Just add anything relevant to it as you find it I'm sure someone will find it useful.

You're a legend Mazza!! Bedtime reading for me now :).

The quality thing is because that site is showing the image smaller (and in less quality) so it fits on the screen better. Just click the image and it will go to its full size and quality. :)

Oh dear I think I've just realised something.

I think the KE-Jetronic is the system used on cars with a catalyst and 02/lambda sensor!
I think the 2.5-16 without catalyst is K-jetronic?
Does the book feature that too?

Hello

Dont panic!!!

The KE-Jetronic System or (CIS-E) Covers both the cat and non cat 190's

Bosch k

K-jetronic (CFI) Contineous fuel injection
introduced in 1974, covers Mercedes 6.9litre, 280,450

K-jetronic with Lambda
Mercedes, 280,380,450,500

KE-Jetronic (CSI-E)
Covers all 190e cat/non cat

Good old KE, so simple yet so complicated...lol

In part 5 of this (actual page number 152) it talks of the idle speed air valve (got it, the one between the injectors) and then in the right hand side of the page, the 'auxiliary air valve'. What the hell is that? It sounds identical to the idle speed air valve to me??!!

Also on a separate note, does the big moving plate air flow sensor in the throttle body of our cars mechanically control the fuel injection? I thought it did? In which case, why does it also have a sensor going to a computer as well (read in PART 6).

Further to the link posted at the head of this thread :

http://ffp-motorsport.com/tuning/kejetronic.php

... the arrangement of the air filter / airflow sensor / manifold in my 190E 1991 2.0 saloon is actually reversed and is more accurately represented here :

KE-jetronic for 1991 190E saloon : http://volkswagen.msk.ru/injector/k_and_ke-jetronic.pdf

Note how in the forst diagram air enters below the airflow sensor, whillst in the second it enters from above (uless I am much mistaken).

Well, finally got round to posting this up. The best documentation I've ever seen for KE Jetronic, from your local Bosch service centre ;). Is intended for lambda sensor and catalyst equipped cars but most of it is the same for non-lambda cars - certainly the mechanical bits and general principles.
Valid for all W201s with an E on the badge!

This is just an overview really - there's pages and pages more of this stuff, then microfiche and DVD archives of circuit diagrams etc - you could spend days engrossed in it but you'd tear your hair out. All this stuff should be held by a Bosch service centre.

There's cutaway photos of the fuel distributor/metering head which is quite interesting.
Also an explanation of how the injectors work.
By the way the 190 has a downdraught air flow sensor, so the flap moves down not up (bit confusing that one).
The idle control valve is referred to as the "rotary idle actuator".
Oh and a photo of a 190 in the front cover showing it really is for 190s!

I've got some air coming in through one or more of the KE vacuum pipes .

1. How many are there , and would it be difficult to replace them all ?

2. Are some of them more prone to splitting than others ?

3. Is it possible to just seal the old ones with some rubber compound or other ?
