Evening all! Been having some problems recently with opening my bonnet. It appears that the small plastic lever you pull through the grill has somewhat seized and doesn't like to pull all the way out. There is a spring mechanism attached to this lever and this is what has stiffened allowing the lever to not be pulled all the way out. Does anyone know if this is a simple disassemble the parts attached to the lever and replace with a new lot or is a pain? Is it sold as one complete unit? * Just to clarify, it's the lever on the outside of the car coming through the grill, NOT the one inside passenger side footwell. Cheers guys!

Id try freeing it up with some wd40 and then re grease the lever and spring. White spray grease is ideal for this. |

Cheers Stu, Gave it a load of WD40 which did free it up a fair bit, was just worried that it would happen again and would seize up. Where can I get White spray grease from? |

wd40 seems like a good option as stu says but I remember my 2.0d didnt have this lever at all, I bought the plastic lever bit on its own and it was pretty easy to fit. I think just pulling a pin out and pushing the lever in. May have been a circlip involved. Wasnt hard though to answer your question. |

Cheers guys, Kenny, I think it's the metal spring behind the plastic lever that appears to have seized, nothing wrong with the actual lever itself. Will try some of this white grease stuff and hope that it will free up with that! Thanks for that ya'll! ![]() |

Just keep working it back and forth with the wd40 until it is fully free then wipe clean all the dirt and rusty crap form the wd with a rag. Then spray liberally with the grease and work it in by working the handle back and forth. Maybe copper grease would be better than the white grease? Can anyone advise on the best grease to use for this kind of application? |
