Nice one Steve.

IMHO it's just about the perfect time to buy a 210. They've lost all their money now, but are still new/nice enough to be good cars still. You'd struggle to find a good 124 diesel for that money too.

FWIW, I'm considering offing the 300TE at some point and moving up a bit. It doesn't get a lot of use but I feel that I'm nearly done with mine now - can't be bothered to spend anything on it now and IMHO it's getting on a bit.

Saw a pretty good E430 estate go on eBay today for just over £1300. Long MOT/year's tax/new tyres etc - seems like a logical upgrade to me.

First thing to check on these IMHO is the front spring perches and the crossmember - the rest is mainly cosmetic/niggly stuff.

For what you paid I think you've got a great car there - makes you realise sometimes what good value cars are about for next to no money these days.

some bodges to be rectified (a jumper wire to the aircon fan at the rad ??)
It runs hot.
Looks like they put the jumper on there so they can force the fan on to cool it in stationary traffic.

dont like it

found out my regulator has gone on the heater blower

not a prob you would think except mercedes decided to upgrade the motor fan and regulator mid build "before"

i have the old style "of course" and you can not get the regulator its the whole upgrade option at hundreds of pounds :X

but

you can get a w140 s class regulator still and this can be retro fitted to my fan :driver: so not the end of the world should i not be able to sorce one

although i may be in luck will find out in a few days time (Thanks to UKmerctechie)

and went looking to see if my spring hangers are about to fail, common on these cars so i removed all the sealant, bit of light surface rust but not rotten anywhere, pictures make it look worse than it is

well the w210 has plastic light covers and these tarnish over time sooooo

i removed mine and had a go at polishing them

the first attempt with rubbing compounds proved dissapointing so i got the big guns out and went for a 800 grit paper then 1200 ( i would have then gone 1500 grit but had run out :$ ) then g3 then g10 then auto glym polish and finally meguires wax

you can see the difference B)

I like the 210, particularly the E320b cdi estate, in Avantgarde spec, powerful value for money nowadays.

Pick one with minimal rust, and you've got a car that will give you many years of enjoyable motoring. :D

Ive always loved the 210 E class, brilliant car Steve.

Found some snaps of my old E280 v6 avantgarde, lowered with Eibachs on 8jx18 AMG reps.

Cant beleive how cheap they are now, I sold mine for £7,500 in 2005
