hi there everyone,
had my head off this weekend as the gasket was going. i sent the head off to a mates machine shop and he said it has been taken as low as it possibly can go! if he was to take any off it would be taking the corner of the exhaust valve off! so i just changed the gasket and stuck it all back together! also while it was off i had a good look at the head, and the corrosion is quite bad in the water jackets as in the pics below. how much life would you say i have left in it?

i think il just drive this till it dies, then get a diffrent engine!

cheers guys

it was sat for 3 years with the same shitty water in by the sounds of it, everything that has any contact with the water system is ruined. i noticed when i did the metal thermostat cover the bottom under the thermostat was pitted to hell. iv put some of that flush/rust eater in it and cleaned it out as much as poss. im suprised it isnt just a ball of metal and creamy gloop!

Did a compression test last night, and they are all 145/150 psi.any ideas why a new gasket would make it lower, it used to be 185!

As Richy said mate. Just Junk the head as it will be cheaper to find another head or a complete engine. any 1.8, 2.0 2.3 8V and 2.3 16V goes straight in to the gearbox so have a quick search and you will be sorted.

Ouuuff a grand is quite steep, my manifold won't fit either will it? I recon il get this other car, take the engine diff and all bits I need off it, then scrap it. Maybe rebuild the engine first. Need a new box too but this one is an auto.
