I'm only really here for the Kitchens

Ok, seems a tad premature perhaps but for this trip we dont expect to have internet (what kind of world are we living in ?) so we expect to be sending pics via carrier pigeon (or perhaps mms) to a proxy (i.e. toff), who can stick them in here. Despite what you think at present some of you guys will be coming on this pilgrimage next year so pay attention.

I wont have the ability to start the thread while over there so here it goes !!! You thought my gtg pic thread (without any pics) from ace cafe was silly, I have managed to top it !!! A gtg pic thread that I cant post to and hasn't happened yet.

To give you something to go on the plan is I leave mine by 6:30am (I have been assured that there is a 6:30am and its technically morning), then I go pick up the -v- meister, then a couple of my mates, then on to jeremy, then full steam ahead to dover, through france, belgium, germany and on to the track.

ahhh, probably time I started packing.

watch this space......

Have a wicked time guys - yes, I'm utterly jealous! However, I've been promised excellent photo/video coverage since I DIDN'T crush Kenny's camera the other day lmao

Enjoy yourselves and keep it safe.

Just got home, phew, quite a trek back although it all went smooth until finchley where I hit a pot hole and blew a tyre. I managed to get home by stopping every 5 mins and pumping it up. Over a thousand miles, very harsh treatment around a track and the car gets taken out by a pothole in London !! Still, far better than it happening over there.

I boiled my brake fluid on my first set of laps, almost total brake failure on teh 130mph stretch leading into the hairpin !!!! Very scary indeed. Probably stayed out a bit long but the main cause is old fluid. Still got plenty of track time afterwards but not quite as on the edge and 2 laps at a time as by this point they were pretty bad and overheating often. The car did me proud and the handling quite frankly amazed me, really nice to see my setup actually works. The autobox didnt let the side down either, may not be as engaging as a manual but it worked really well on the track. The cars where obviously amazing but I will let the pics tell that story, when I can.

More pics to follow at some point but to sum it up it was an amazing 4 days, the peak for me of course being the track and meeting all the lovely german forum folk, maki, henger, lude and all of you guys, thanks so much for letting us gatecrash, see you all next year or before if any of you come to our fair shores.

the jezza mobile was faaaaast, as is the driver. He spent so much time taking people for a ride around the track he could have made his fuel money back if he charged taxi fare :P I will leave it to jez to fill in the gaps.

I didnt take any video, I had a passenger on almost every lap and they sit where the camera is meant to go :(

V took a load of proper photos which he should post within a couple of years.

If any of you are registered on the German 16v forum http://www.w201-16v.de it could be worth looking out for more 'bilder' (picture) threads on there?

A quick visit found this thread on Hockenheim 2010
which includes gems such as

Hi guys... I was over at Hockenheim with my 190E AMG (now with a 2.6 M102 4-cylinder Brabus engine) and met Jeremy. I came with my club members (Mercedes Club Polska) from Poland for a nice 3 day meet (we all did about 1500 miles worth of driving but it was worth it!). We visited the Porsche and Mercedes museums before heading out for Hockenheim. Was a very nice event... weather was great and luckily there weren't any serious crashes or glitches.

Jeremy was kind enough to show me his 3.6 AMG 190E.... and boy does that car FLY! He had a small problem with the 1st/reverse gear but I had a friend fix it for him on the spot.

I'm waiting for some more pictures that my friend has taken and once I have them, I will be posting them.

Once again... a GREAT event, people from all over... and an excellent way to test out your car in the way its intended to! There are no other places in the world where you can see so many Evo I's and Evo II's in one place!

Happy motoring! :driver:

Hi Ken,
did you remove the MB emblem from your bonnet or has someone half inched it? Is that you in your avataar.Really enjoyed your pics and posts about the trip.Hope i`ll be able to join you guys next year, though no way i`ll be able to keep up in my 1.8.Love the forum, most people are really friendly and always willing to help with advice. The Hockenheim trip and the local GTG in Coventry have just shown what great spirit exists within the club.Well done to all who were involved!

Sax.

Unfortunately some oiks from the local estate stole my emblem, I have a replacement but havent got around to fitting it yet.

Anyone thinking of coming along should feel free. Even if your not taking your own car on the track there are normally lifts around the circuit available, I only did a few laps where I didnt have a passenger. There were about 30 people from the polish club, we really need to have a uk contingent :)

Very nice Pictures!

It was a pleasure to see you guys from England on our meeting!
We had so mutch to talk and laugh about!

Jeremy is a very good Driver!
I was very thankful that I could have a ride in his fantastic car!
As Jeremy took a ride in my car he showed me where the braking ponits are and
he when I sould step on it!

He always shouted: Cut the corner! Cut the Corner The Track is yours! So use the whole Track!

Believe me or not, but I have never been so fast at Hockenheim!
Jeremy is a very also good Teacher!

-V- You are a very cool and crazy guy! Your Pictures are absolutly fantastic!
Kenny, you are very funny too. Say my regrads to Antony and the Guy you called the Giraffe!

Maki and I enjoyed the Time with you guys!
Hope we see us soon.......maybe in London!

What a fabulous weekend .

On the trip down we spent the German part of the Journey at an average of 120 mph , we could always tell we were at 140 plus because the bonnet started to bow upwards on the passenger side :help:

Spent the saturday with Lude and Maki mostly just laughing our heads off all day and joined the very cool Polish contingent for a few beers . Both me 'n -V- ended the day with sore sides from all the laughing .

The Sunday was all track action , and when I wasn't acting as one of the 'ring taxi's , I was blagging rides in other cars while my car cooled . Had a real "moment" at the 140 mph run to the hairpin when I ran out of brakes and had to take the escape road , and had the tyre wall come out and kiss my headlight ! I now need to re-think my brake set-up as I've also warped my front discs .

I also had a clip come off my 1st & reverse , but one of the polish crew had one spare and fitted it for me ., how good ws that then ?

On the journey home I had to be push-started every time as my starter motor went awol , but as I wasn't the one doing the pushing I didn't care . ;) Funnily enough as soon as I got home it started to work again . "before"

Everyone is just sooo cool , and there is so much cameraderie that conversations and beer are the order of the weekend .

This is a very good excuse to come next year , and you do not need to have a track prepared car in order to have fun , there are many of us willling to drive you round the track or just watch and drink and eat .

We met Jack Beckers , and had a good chat with the very nice Chris Martens .
