I've done 5k miles in the last 2 months in the 190e (1992, 2.0) and its always been fine. Recently it started missfiring on one cylinder which got gradually worse. I got round to servicing it and the rotor arm was barely in existance, but i replaced all serviceable parts and the problem seemingly went away. Two days ago I had to do a 500 mile round trip to pick up the other half, in which it was fine until i was literally pulling onto my road. The car started missing really really badly and had no power. It always starts fine. The next day (ie yesterday) there was no missing, but the throttle response was so bad. The car behaved as if it was switched off until almost full throttle where it would pick up and lurch forwards (obviously because I nearly had my foot to the floor). Today it is both intermittantly missing, and the throttle response again is shocking. I gave it a hard blast in sport (I let it rev to about 5.5k) and this seemed to clear it for 10 or so miles, and now the problem is as bad again. That coupled with the need for a wheel bearing or two, and MOT time in 3 weeks i really need this car to be running well. Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated. Cheers Lewis |

Duff, fuel filter, plugs, or a dodgy lead, I have some spare in my boot you can have, when are you free over the weekend? Bring it up, I`m only behind B&Q. Additional: Bloody larger, I`m getting you confused with Leighton who is down the rd. Are the dizzy cap hooks clipped in nice and securly? Edited by Rich27, Fri May 21, 2010 9:38 pm.

I know its a long shot but have you tightened all the nuts and bolts properly after changing the rotor arm? Are the any cracks in the dizzy cap? |

Nuts and bolts when changing the rotor arm? Two screws to get the dizzy cap off, then it simply pulls off. Also noticed the distributor unit itself had some oil in it, which struck me as bizzare so it could be that. also has a dizzy cap that is held on with two screws, not clips and they're done up FT (f*ckin tight) Ive changed the plugs and leads etc, and tried with the old ones, also surely a dodgy HT lead wouldnt cause the whole car to act as if it is switched off, that would be just for the missfire.. Rich - So you're not in Falmouth/Penryn? |
