i have recently replaced head gasket, temp switch , thermostat etc but im still finding that it can sit just under 100 sometimes after driving around for awhile and sitting in traffic and will creep up past it. sustained driving without stopping will bring it down but will go back up semi-quickly if i idle/go up hill. is this normal?? what is your crusing temp? and does it fluctuate heaps because previous cars never did, even on very hot days! im worrying i will blow head gasket again please inform me is this isnt normal cheers. |

make sure theres no air locks, and the water not circulating proper. See if all water hoses are gettin hot etc.. Could be a faulty thermostat!! |

Check if your auxiliary fan kicks in. At around 90 a second fan should kick in, most times you can hear it engage and come on. The sound of the car changes dramatically and it sounds like a b bus When this fan kicks in it should bring the temperature right back down to normal operating temperature. The temperature does fluctuate, but so long as its not going to far past the 100 mark you should be ok. I'm guessing you have relatively fresh coolant running around the system?

Your radiator is probably silted up. Get it up to temperature and check the face of the rad with an infrared thermometer or by sticking your hand on it. It there are big cool spots it's time for a new rad Nick Froome www.w124.co.uk |

Sometimes you can get an air bubble under the Temp Switch (Sensor) and it will restrict the opperation To get rid, just loosen the switch a little untill coolant comes out and then re-tighten. Also check the fuse, I think number 10. |

Time for a full reverse flush! The silicone in the antifreeze can clog it badly. But Nick F is q. right. A new radiator is about 200 quid... |
