Please only vote here if
- The Timing Chain has been replaced on your car at some point
- You know the mileage at which it was replaced
- Use the top options for DUPLEX, and the bottom ones for SIMPLEX

As far as I know there is no strict 'deadline' or service interval for the Timing Chain & Tensioner, and it would be nice to get a vague idea of at what mileage most folk have the job done :)

Can I suggest adding wether the chain was simplex or duplex to the poll somehow?

yeah as single chains are more likely to break. however on the 2.5 were hearing of a few tensiners and rails breaking!

Good point, but I dunno how to edit it

Maybe we have 14 choices then - The mileages for DUPLEX, and then mileages for SIMPLEX...

Kenny, Steve, Rich, ANYONE?! :P

The chain on most Duplex-fitted cars will probably outlive the car itself. I'd imagine that unless you had the engine apart for other serious work, you'd not look at changing the chain until after 150-200k miles or so. They are generally very reliable and only after high mileage would there be noticable wear. You should be able to see the wear (sometimes referred to as 'stretch') by checking the lag between the crank at TDC and the camshaft sprocket. It is after all simple mechanical component and can be inspected easily.

Simplex chained cars (and along with the older tensioner designs) are obviously less robust and more prone to failure, and I'd consider monitoring/replacing the chain on an older/higher mileage (100-120k+) car, unless the beginnings of excessive noise dictated earlier attention.

Poll results look a little strange so far to me as I expect that 90%+ of the 190Es on the road today are probably running on the original chains without issue :)
