Hi guys,

My car have a surging idle. When I unplugged the icv, it would idle just below 1500rpm.
When it is plugged in, it would go from 1000 rpm up to 2000 rpm and down again continously.
Does this mean the fault is with the icv ?

Cheers

It could be an air leak, i'd look at all the ICV pipework before throwing your wallet at it :)

Thanks for the advice. Is there some kind of diagram that shows all the vacuum hoses. All the hoses leading to the icv seems fine. Is there a way I can test if the hoses can causing air leak.

I personally don't know of any diagram that shows them all as they are for different systems,

You just have to get under the bonnet and check each one you find ;)

Usually by squeezing for splits or even taking them off and checking them one by one.

to see if they are porous.

Also check the ends as they have a habbit of tearing around just where they
come off the little pipe things they are shoved on at each end.

If you don't know what they look like they are normally the rubber ones ;)

Have you actually checked your ICV for function yet? Pull the electrical connector - with the key on I think you should get 12v at the connector. (Not 100% on this - but it is activated by 12v so you need to make sure the problem is not in the wiring). Use a 9v battery and connect the leads to the ICV - it should visibly trigger (pull the hoses off so you can see the butterfly and visually confirm movement).
