My radiator warning light came on in my valver yesterday , so I topped it up with nearly 2 litres ( Very unusual ) and still the light doesn't go out ........I cannot see any dripping but the undertray is wet .

Any ideas ?

Check and tighten all the joints on the connecting hoses, one of them may be weeping sightly.

Jeremy ,the sensors are prone to sticking. They get "gunged up " over the years. It happened to mine. I took it out and cleaned it a few times but it always came back on. I got fed up doing that and simply bought a new one from GSF,it was only about £14 IIRC,easy job to do.

Also check and top up your windscreen washer resevoir. It would seem that the two sensors are wired in series and one can affect the other,if you see what I mean.

Mike.

Edit.

Also the coolant loss. It could be the water pump leaking, again this happened on mine. Feel the bottom of the pump to see if it is wet.Mine was leaking quite badly and I had to get a new one put on.

I think MadMike has covered all the bases there. The sensor can get really manky (algae) and there is always the possibility that the water pump might be shagged.

Does the engine overheat?

If the undertray is wet and theres no sign of a leak my money would be on the waterpump. There is a small pipe attached to the underside of the bearing housing that diverts the leaking water away from the serpentine belt straight on to the undertray. Not a difficult job Jeremy, takes Nick and I about an hour to do!
