Hi there,
I seem to have a quite bad oil leak from the seal on ther prop end of the gearbox.
Just wondering if anyone has changed one of these before? And anything I should look out for while doing it?
Cheers

Im out and about on my phone at the minute but im sure that you have to somehow lock the gearbox (screwdriver in the ring gear?), remove the output shaft nut and withdraw it, then it may be a case of screwing two self tappers into the seal and pulling out, then drifting the new one in. All after draining the gear oil first :D the propshaft and exhaust may need removing as may the gearbox cradle so you'll need to support it elsewhere.

Ahh right, might be easier to just get the box out then. The oil fill is in a right awkward place aswel! So itl probably be easier. Judging by how much oil is all over the bottom if my car I'd say there isn't much in it now! Went in to the dealership today and it's 5 quid for the seal which I think is pretty reasonable!
Is the box really heavy?

I can 'shoulder' a box off and get it off the deck and fit on a ramp - i'm not sure in kilo's actually how heavy they are.

Oops! Double reply! Hmm, il be scrambling arround on the floor with about a foot of space. Might be abit tricky to get back in. Spose I could use a jack. Does anything else need replacing while doing it?

The clutch maybe, I have done them on a trolley jack. I modified a cup to fit in the jackhead with a cross made from box section and a ratchet strap. it worked very well and cost naff all.
