My 190 is due for its MOT soon and has horrible rusty fuel lines, are these available from mercedes or is it a case of making some up? Does it have to be steel or can I use PVC coated copper like LPG lines?

You should still be able to buy them from merc although its probably just as easy to get them made up, richy190 may still be offering the service.

I think you need to use either steel or copper/nickel. From merc they will come straight (or coiled) you will then need to bend them to shape. You can buy a bender for a tenna from ebay or very carefull bend it around something like aerosol can. Search online for instructions, it is easy to screw it up.

If the rot isnt too bad you may be able to wire brush it off and paint it.

yeah i gave them a quick wire brushing and a spray of paint, didnt want to go too hard with the brush in case it was just the rust holding them together. POR-15 would have been ideal but mine had all gone rock hard in the tin.

The pipes are around £25 each from mercedes but if its going to come coiled it might be cheaper to get a big roll of tube and some end fittings, at least then i can use some for future projects and have enough if anything goes wrong.

So i guess i will need a bender and a pipe flairing tool.

its 8mm bore tubing, you will need a special flaring tool as most brake pipe tools are too small.

Dont buy a cheapo flare, I bought one and gave up in the end. Cheap bend tools are fine as there isnt much to them but the flare needs a decent grip on the pipe or it just wont work. Mine were for brakes so no idea on the fuel lines I am afraid.
